Black starts the clock and also the the privilege to choose the placements of the clocks (left or right).

As I recall it is black that starts the analog clock by hitting his side this way white side starts to count.
in the rules it is the arbiter that does it. however he ususally just says you may start your clocks now.
if black isn't at the table at move 1 white has to do it.
Hi Guys, in tournament play, who starts the clock?
Does Black start the clock and then White makes the first move or does White simply make the first move and the then presses his clock?
Or in other words, which side's time is the first to decrease?
