Skin color or features, provides little insight into human intelligence, or the moral fabric that societal upraising has played in the development of young chess players. The tremendous public support for chess in India no doubt has spurred it to greater societal acceptance than in countries such as the USA, where Morphy's sentiments on professional chess playing still hold some sway.

Better at what tho?

India has quite clearly built up a powerful chess culture that is beginning to rival the old Soviet chess dominance. That looks like the obvious explanation to me.

But are you asking the right question? Is it really "Indians" who are better, or is it wealthy and upper-middle class Indians who are better, because the well off have the luxury to focus on the game, rather than poor, provincial or less well off Indians?

One of Gukesh's parents is a surgeon; the other is a scientist. How many, on average, players from the poorer parts of India are playing at an elite level? Margus Carlsen's parents are engineers. You see the issue?

I haven't looked, but I'd willing to venture a guess on solid ground that most of the best white or non-white American players are middle class or better, and come from urban areas where the opportunity to play chess exists, rather than say rural South Dakota or Mississippi.

India chess has a lot to proud of; I would encourage you not to let a few jerks drag you into a kind of reverse bias that is just as ugly as whatever it is that people are telling you.

There are many good chess players who are not middle-class or better.

Of course. And I am sure there are plenty of tennis champions from Norway and skiing champions from Jamaica. But are they typical? We are talking about trends, averages and culture of opportunity.

Indians are not better because they are Indian. If Indians on average are a high point right now, and white Americans or Euros at more of an ebb, it is for other reasons than ethnicity.

Yeah chess is just a big part of Indian culture, it is not because of their race, they just have a passion for it as the Soviets did in the 1900s

Pity thus site doesn't recognize sacrifice for position instead of blunders and mistakes.

And whoever posted Indians are better,are so upem selves.im from new zealand and we produce a lot of world champs,but do ya hear us blowing our own trumpets....ummm...nope coz we humble kiwis,and world champs covering alot of sporting arenas.bah humbug to you self stroking ego maniacs.
