Why are there no take back's on this site?

IMKeto

There is

B_doodle
On the app? I’ve only seen the take back option available playing bots. What if I were playing a friend?

Sorry if that's a dumb question, I'm new on this app... But I cant find how to take back a move when playing against a bot, even though I have that option clearly selected. Where is it

you probably have to be on the website. The app is always missing little things like that.

Or you could have selected the difficulty that doesn't allow takebacks.

FIDE Laws of Chess:
"4.7
When, as a legal move or part of a legal move, a piece has been released on a square, it cannot be moved to another square on this move. The move is considered to have been made in the case of:
4.7.1
a capture, when the captured piece has been removed from the chessboard and the player, having placed his own piece on its new square, has released this capturing piece from his hand,
4.7.2
castling, when the player's hand has released the rook on the square previously crossed by the king. When the player has released the king from his hand, the move is not yet made, but the player no longer has the right to make any move other than castling on that side, if this is legal. If castling on this side is illegal, the player must make another legal move with his king (which may include castling with the other rook). If the king has no legal move, the player is free to make any legal move.
4.7.3
promotion, when the player's hand has released the new piece on the square of promotion and the pawn has been removed from the board."

Take backs are of course NOT allowed in competitive or rated games. However, takebacks are an integral part of non-competitive, a.k.a., casual chess play. Especially between friends or would-be friends. When playing an unrated game, it is often the case where a player makes a mistake and either requests for a take-back or is offered one by the player with the advantage. Either way, both players feel good about it. This can only happen when the players' focus is not to win +8 in rating points at the expense of the loser, but rather to enjoy a relaxed, stress-free game of chess. Hopefully with a glass of Bourbon or beer in one's hand. So I don't understand why the takeback feature whilst available on one other major online chess platform, is not on chess.com. It would be nice to have the takeback feature on chess.com. CHESS DOT COM, PLEASE ADD TAKEBACKS FOR UNRATED GAMES!

Since we are talking about chivalry and chess niceties, how about this feature? In an unrated game, when a game ends in, by default, no rating points are deducted from the loser, and none added to the winner. UNLESS. Unless the loser decides that the winner DESERVES the rating points. In that case, the loser can voluntarily AWARD the rating points to the loser. And the loser voluntarily deducts his/her own rating points. This can only happen IF and only IF the loser decides that he/she deserves to lose points for abysmal play, and that the victor deserves to be rewarded. And the WINNER can either ACCEPT or REJECT the extra rating points. In the latter case the both players' rating remain constant - status quo.

I tell you, if Chess.com developers actually listen to my suggestion and take leave of their senses, and actually implements it, you will have many more chess.com friends!

Did I tell you that I live in a dream world, where nothing like the above I described will ever happen in real life?

Things like mouse slips or unintended moves.

It would be nice if there was a mode that double checks with us when we do a move.

This, would of course have to be optional. I can see where you're going, it'd be helpful for the opening in 5 min blitz and rapid, but not bullet

MrBlunderer76
Yes interesting the number of misclicks that occur on lichess; followed by a message in chat “my finer slipped”; followed by a a take back request and then moving a completely different piece. 🙄😂

Actually there ARE takebacks on chess.com, but only for "daily" chess...

I think what @Durian_Defense said was correct. There should be no take backs for rated games, but there should be take backs for unrated games.

I regularly play chess while running on the treadmill. I like to play long games while I’m running such as 15 minutes with a 10 second increment. It doesn’t happen very often, but every once in a while, my finger will slip on my iPad halfway through a game. It results in a big waste of time for both me and my opponent. Both sides would benefit from having the option to request a takeback.
