Why are there separate titles for women?

Because maybe 5 or 6 women would get titles every 50 years or so.
Why dont women compete with men in the Olympics?
Because they would also lose and never get medals

But there is no such thing as men's titles in chess. There are universal titles, and women's titles. Women and men compete all the time, and the distribution of playing strength (bell curve from FIDE data) is nearly identical for men and women.
The titles originated in the 70s. Perhaps from sexim, but also as a means of drawing more women to the game. They realized a very small percentage of players were female, so it was a marketing gimmick to increase revenue.

Probably just an easy way to know which group they compete in. Screen names and even real names aren't always clear if they're male or female and that two pools are different since the men's competitive pool is much larger.

You can (and most probably do) earn a WGM title by playing mostly men.
You can earn a GM title by playing mostly women (although it's unlikely).

These are FIDE titles. Chess.com recognizes FIDE and USCF titles, but doesn't itself give any titles. When you see GM by someone's name on chess.com, it means they sent chess.com proof of their real identity, like e-mailing them a picture of their driver's license.
In any case, the main distinction is the women's titles require 200 points less than the universal titles. For example FM is 2300, so WFM is 2100.

There's no such thing as a men's rating pool. Nearly all tournaments (online and offline) allow all ages and genders.

While some tournaments are open to both sexes, there are tournaments that are segregated to women only. At the highest levels players are pretty much all men, likely due to the much higher number of men who play chess.

Sure, but women's only events are relatively rare, and the W title requirements go off of the FIDE rating, which is not segregated by gender.
Even though the top 100 or so players are all male, they are not in a separate rating pool. They're still members of the FIDE rating pool, which has both men and women competing.

because women dont want equality, they want special privelages

Sometimes there are two leagues of chess, one for men and one for women.
It's surprising how many people think there are men-only events or men-only titles.
There aren't.
I was looking for this, this post is a sexist flytrap, these people who are MEDIOCRE AT BEST are really insulting women grandmasters and saying they're not good as men.

Why shouldn't there be? Men and women mainly play table tennis separately. If you watched the winter olympics they even have separate curling competitions, of all things ...
If women want to organise their own tournaments and titles, how the heck does that affect you adversely?
the main argument against women's titles is that chess is a mental sport and not a physical one; in physical sports, women have a different muscular structure than men, so it makes complete sense. I think the official reason for women's titles is to try to get more women into the game, but I could be wrong.

compare their ratings:
much love & respect to all women on this international women's day, but the simple fact is that the best women in the world are outclassed by hundreds of ratings points within chess (probably because men are dumb enough to devote a huge chunk of their lives to a game of war). 😆
