I always played chess IRL with friends to where you can kill the piece putting you in check, in this online version I haven't been able to, what gives

You often can capture the piece putting you in check. Your link is to a worthless discussion by the uninformed, not to a chess playing site.

When you are in check, examine
1) can the attacking piece be captured?
2) can the check be blocked by putting one of your pieces in the way?
3) can the king move out of check?

If you are in check by a knight, only 1 and 3 are possible.
If you are in check by two pieces, you must move your king.

Literally everyone uses google, and everyone I have ever played chess with plays that way the link is a quote from www.jimmyvermeer.com which is a chess website genius

As far as I know you can capture every piece but the king

In my personal situation the queen was putting my king in check and my knight could in any other situation take the queen, but in this situation I could not I was forced to move my king it was only in check by the one piece.

Oh, you mean this game? You're in checkmate, the queen is guarded by the bishop.. https://www.chess.com/live/game/3442661927?username=hazyeyed

Grunts2018

Also you don't 'kill' a piece you capture it, this isnt frigging call of duty

Tristala

Your knight might've been pinned to your king, and moving it would have put you into check?

Here, this is what I am referring to, I could not use my knight to take his knight.

Because it's white's move. If you meant when the black king was on e6 then you couldn't take the knight because it wasn't checking you, it was the queen on e2.

Bxe2 seems like a legal move. I don't see a way for your knight to take white's queen though.

gingerninja2003

This is the game I think he's on about.

I don't understand either of you but no, it was my move (black) and I couldn't take his knight for my knight...

I thought knights only moved in an L shape it doesn't make sense to me why I was forced to move my king resulting in the loss of my queen I would think I wouldn't be in check unless apparently all of the L counts not just the ending point... which is again how I always played

Tristala

The Queen had you in check, not the knight.

How does the white queen have me in check? shes not even in the same row

Tristala

The picture you took is after you moved your king out of check. The queen you in check before you moved you king - while you were trying to take the knight.

It was his fault because he didn't castle at all that game, I can see why the opponent was taking advantage of you. Some things you could've avoided. I don't know if its true what you said that you play IRL, but apparently you are a very inexperienced player if you don't castle at all. Castling is a must.

Yes I am very inexperienced lmao I must not know all the rules properly that's why I came on here to ask for help when I said play IRL I meant played in the past, like me and some friends would very casually play I have probably played 175? games in my entire life and i'm 23 I don't know what castling even is I thought I knew this game better but apparently not
