Chess.com does not have any beef with Magnus Carlsen - we'd love him to play and invite him to every major event we hold. The Online Nations Cup is not just a Chess.com event, though - it's being run by FIDE, as that tweet at https://twitter.com/chesscom/status/1258447024632053760 says. It quotes Nick Barton from Chess.com:
As a FIDE event, all player invites for the Online Nations Cup were handled solely by FIDE. Magnus was invited to participate in this historic tournament, and we would have loved to have him take part in it. Unfortunately, though an offer to play was extended by each of FIDE Director General Emil Sutovsky and FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, our understanding is that Magnus was not willing to play under the same financial conditions as the other participants. We have the utmost respect for Magnus' talent, and he will continue to receive invites to Chess.com's events on a regular basis, just as he has for many years.
Some people seem to think that with that statement, Chess.com is insinuating that Magnus is greedy: that is absolutely not the case. It's clarifying that Chess.com did NOT invite ANYBODY and did NOT set the conditions under which anyone plays, that side of things has been handled solely by FIDE.
I don't know if I'm gonna get banned if I talked about it, but just keep in mind. and Remember me lol.
For those who don't know, there is a huge beef between Chess.com and Carlsen over twitter, Chess.com just posted a tweet that Carlsen refused to play the Nations Cup because of the financial offer they have made or the FIDE, now Magnus replied that he will ask for triple the price! in any future event.
So Chess.com is charging us a hell of a money for membership and spams my butt with ads if I'm free member and so greedy to give Carlsen an offer? then going on twitter making a low blow move?
