Why did my rating start at 800?

I downloaded this app a few months ago and was placed at an 800.
After playing and learning from play, I've climbed to around 1200.
I just started consistently playing live chess @5minute games and climbed from 800 to 900.
I convinced some friends to get the app and they all started at 1200.
Why is this?
Now it looks like ppl are starting at 1800.

They set your rating based on your own self assessment. You evidently said you were a beginner. Have your friends who started at 1200 gone up or down since they started?

It doesn't really matter in the long run. Ratings adjust pretty quickly. The guys who self reported as near-experts probably got their heads handed to them.

Oh wow, i don't even remember doing that.
Some of them plummeted, others have maintained or climbed higher.

I'm just a lil jealous I guess, cuz I've played the daily chess for 9 months now and just barely made 1200 lol.

I feel like I'm a little better than that but now it's only increasing by 5-15 points every win. Is there a way to jump up quicker?

New accounts (and accounts that have been inactive for many months) can gain and lose >100 points per game. This is the Glicko RD value at work, basically meaning those ratings are considered unreliable because they're new / inactive.

So the short answer is: make a new account and be sure to win your first few games.

Having said that, experienced people know to look for signs someone's rating isn't reliable like:

They've only played a few games or a new account
They play many games in a row vs the same player
Recent long winning or losing streak
A win/loss ratio far away from 50/50
Average opponent rating far away from current rating
Other chess.com ratings much higher or lower (e.g. a 1000 point gap between blitz and rapid)
A sudden large rise or drop on rating history graph
Many games ended before move 20.

Or just keep playing against Computer1-EASY until you reach a rating that you like.

Set your new game parameter like +75 to -25 thus most time you will get higher rated. The win lose ratio mostly near 50:50 thus constantly you improve on rating

Not everyone wants to delude themselves with a fake rating.

It is hard to conclude, though, if winning Computer1-EASY all the time gets you an overrated rating number. The player may well be playing at the 2000 level, but just decided to play against Computer1-EASY for fun.

On the other hand, it is also possible for a player to lose to Computer1-EASY all the time, It could be a real rating, or the person could be underrated but always hangs pieces against Computer1-EASY for some reason.

Once the RD stabilises to a low number, games played will have a win/loss change of a lower magnitude. One of the ways to keep the same account whilst having a large change in rating is to wait for months to play again, which is probably ridiculously long.

The OP asked whether there is a way to improve his rating more quickly. It's an option I'm putting on the table (or rather, I'm pointing out is already on the table); not everyone has to take it.

There are rated computers to play against in live chess.

I feel cheated out of my account I was playing every day and was at around 1100 . So I was pissed to come to my computer to find my account gone and I was a paying  member for this sites platinum membership. My god damn account which I played from for 6 months every day for all of that work all those games to just amount to nothing is , just immensely frustrating . CHESS.COM GIVE MY OLD ACCOUNT BACK !!!!!!!!

How is it your account is just gone? If you were a paying member you'll have a record and can get refunded; which in turn should be proof enough for chess.com to track down your account and restore it. Other than cheating, there shouldn't be a reason for you not to get your account back.
