Why do chess.com players put up fake pictures of themselves as their profile picture?

Is there something wrong with wanting privacy on the Internet?
No, but these players aren't being private, they're lying to the public

So by your logic I'm lying as well, as I have a TV character as my profile pic. They're not pretending to be the person; they probably just like the picture.

If you look closely at my posted pic, you should be able to see me on the left side window of the space needle. Not fake here and no insecurities...however, posting a "Real" personal photo and pretending to be that to lure others beside playing chess is another matter... welcome to the world of Internet.

It is severe personal insecurity in the same way you put Justin Bieber's pic as your Facebook profile photo.

My photo and name on here is of Antonio Esfandiari, because I am his #1 fan and I want everyone to know who he is
Recently it came to my attention that there are many chess players here on chess.com that aren't honest about who they are and what they look like. Players are finding pictures of other people, and pretending to be them here on chess.com.
Why do they do this? It can be very misleading and heaven only knows what they're up to. I just don't trust them. Is it severe personal insecurity? Maybe it's an elaborate scheme to have us buy something we shouldn't. I'm not sure, needs to be stopped.
