Why do i always have a losing streak after a winning streak? i know it's psychological probably but

why does it happen? it's every time. every single time. i had gained some 135 elo in a week, and nearly 300 in about 3 weeks. biggest loss streak i had was like 3 or 4. then suddenly, i started losing every game to basic stuff like backrank mates, hanging queens, hanging pieces, hanging everything, not seeing obvious traps, it's weird...

i fell down from 814 to 738 in a single day. not winning a single game. before i'd climb from 740 to 800 in a day too but. idk i just feel like i can't play the game anymore. this happens every time i've had a good streak and im so tired of never being able to just go upwards without just plummetting down

This is all psychological, and happens with everybody. I had lost 200 elo all in one session which made me unreasonably mald and continue to play more games, losing even more.

Always calm yourself down, take your time to process what's going on, both in and out of chess. Remember, do not play when you're tired or having a bad day. Cool off, and play from there.

Part of it is psychological. Part of it is due to normal fluctuations in your ability.

Say you have slept well, feel good, and are low-rated. Now you play with full focus against all these higher rated people thinking carefully, playing your best chess and winning and getting rated higher.

On another day you may have slept not so well, eaten too heavily. You play against lower rated people, expect an easy win, get careless, sloppy, blunder, lose. Your rating goes down.

Repeat cycle.

It's interesting to me how when I play well (for my rating) I can see weak points and holes in other people's defense, but also predict the opponent's ideas and prevent attacks and traps. During that period, I often end games with checkmate. And then slowly the downward curve starts, I start losing more and more games or winning games only on time, and then I just lose, lose. All ideas disappear. unbelievable. :dead

Fun fact: in the last 20 games, your longest streak is 3 games long (and your shortest "streak" is 1).

statistically you can not keep your winning streaks going, you have to lose and balance your rating around your real rating. server's algorithm will help to make it happen by sendind higher opponents till you fail. and the opposite while you are on losing streaks.

higher you reach higher you fall.. unless, you really improved and that is your new normal.

You're oscillating around your average rating. If you like graphs and spreadsheets you can plot these points, and determine the SD (standard deviation). The smaller the SD the less your swings will be, and would perhaps indicate a more disciplined player.

i just recently got out of a tilt. i fell down to 681 and got back up in just 2 or 3 days.

Stockfish-500

it happens to me all the time

and its so annoying. I get 100 elo in one day from 1611-1705 and next day i reach 1711 and plummet down to 1640. And new days i stay consistent on like 1670 then i fly to 1750. Its so weird and upredictable. My biggest advice: if you play blitz, and if you lose more then 3 games in a row, take a break, touch some grass and play longer tome controls. Calm ur mind dont be upset and while in long games, think. Out of a 10 min game at least use 7 minutes, think few steps ahead, confirm ur move is save and necessart before playing it. Try find tricky tactics, watch out for traps and free pawns calculate before sacing and be patient. If you still cant play well, then play some puzzles for the rest of the day, dont play anymore games and have a good sleep and tomr start with bullet for like 2 games then go rapid, then if games are better, go with blitz. Hope this helps

Im finally playing rated again after nearly a year of playing unrated against higher rated opponents. Some days im a 1700, other days im a 1800, on really good days im a 2000. The key to ranking up is to bring your floor up. It’s better to be a 1850 5/7 days than a 1600 one day and a 2000 the next. There’s lots of factors, sleep, stress, etc. also you should only play rated when you’re winning. If you lose 2, stop for the day, do puzzles or play unrated. When you’re on a tilt your brain is telling you no more of this stress lol.
