Why do people think playing chess is lame and for nerds?

Nerds r cool people. I don't know how many r paying attention but nerds r the most creative people in history. Look at the wealthiest self made billionaires in the world. All nerds.

Even historically, all the great inventors were nerds. Ride in an automobile? Thank a nerd. Fly? Nerd. On a computer or phone reading this? Yep, another nerd. Heck, a nerd probably invented chess. Also, being a nerd doesn't mean weak or not a badazz. I'd bet there's a few nerds in mma or the ufc. So if ur nickname is El Nerdo, feel proud, ur just being complemented.

The non-chess players that I know believe that chess is a game for geniuses, and they assume you have to be in the top 1% of humans on earth (intellectually) in order to play it.

You want a serious answer?
"Why do people think playing chess is lame and for nerds?"
Based on what? Did you make a poll / survey / study, or have read one?
You make a claim [people think playing chess is lame and for nerds], and then you ask 'why is it so?', who said that this claim is even true?
And I'm not even mentioning the fact that 'a nerd' is a very strange and unclear term. What is a nerd? a white person with rounded glasses, shirt inside pants, duck voice, embarrassed by girls? I mean, honestly, these are television terms from the 90's... there's not even such a thing.
See? A 'nerd' is a fictional term from American T.V. shows of the 90's. He's totally calm, and she's all excited...
Same goes for the term 'loser', what on earth.. a person with constant bad luck? I guess a group of such people would be 'a bunch of losers'..

I wonder how Magnus got that giant canyon in the middle of his chest? He should get that checked out at the hospital.

I think the reason chess is such a like or dislike activity is because it takes effort to grasp a basic understanding of what is going on for the non-player. Why would someone spend time watching something when they have no idea what is going on?
I beg to differ, when I saw soccer I knew whats going on, but its boring. When I saw chess I didn't know whats going on, but it was fascinating. It's heart, not brain.
People think that they're too cool to play chess and that it's only for 'nerds'. What can we do to change this image of chess?
