And don't say because they are stupid because how am I supposed to motivate by calling all non chess players stupid

-Instead of playing chess, you could do useful activities like watching TV or looking for stupid webpages.
-People are lazy
-You will not get money by playing chess.
-You will not get a girlfriend by playing chess

If you are talking to children, you could try:
-You will not get a new toy/videogame/mobile phone by playing chess.
Why do all people not play golf?
Why do all people not play Go?
Why do all people not train for the triathlon?
Why doesn't everyone enjoy computer programming?
Why doesn't everyone learn to play piano?
etc.
Life is short. We can only follow a few of the possibilities open to us. Your question requires no other answer than this.
The More useful question is "Why do some people play chess?"
