At the time of writing, I'm sitting around 900. Occasionally, I get paired with opponents significantly higher rated than me. My most recent opponent was just under 1900.
Why? The hopeful in me is that chess.com looks at my play from recent previous games, sees that I'm doing well, and decides it best to match me with someone much higher to see if maybe I'm lower rated than I should be.
I know that you can adjust the settings to some extent to adjust the ratings of your opponents (Like if you don't want to match with people much lower or higher rated than you). I have my settings such that I don't match with lower rated players, because I want a challenge. Not to mention if I do win against a higher rated player, my ELO will increase more from a win/draw than against a lower rated player.
But 900 matching with a 1900 seems a bit of a reach.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Are there any established theories/theories of your own on why chess.com might match you with someone significantly higher rated than you?
For those curious, I got crushed by the 1900, obviously. lol
