Why don't players resign...?????

Are chess players taught never to resign?  99% of the time when I am in a winning position, players on chess.com either abandon the game or wait for the time to run out.  Why don't they just resign?  I don't get it.

I resign.  Heck, I resign all the time.

sore losers; they want to make you pay for your win.

Sometimes it is because if your playing someone at a certain level on a free account with suspicious activity and they are well known and flagged up you play slow or drag the game out as quite often their account is closed by chess.com and you avoid the defeat.

Also another reason is sometimes players delay their resignation and keep playing on to maintain their grading to either (a) allow them to continue to play higher rated players, or (b) get into a certain tournament, i.e. if your 2001 and you want to get into a 2000+ tournament, delaying a lost game or two until the tournament has started will enable that.

Usually if I'm totally losing I resign but sometimes I fight on if I think I can pull a stalemate. Its not glorious but it is part of the game so I dont see a problem with it. I never just abandon a game and let the clock run though.

If I'm losing in live chess, and I keep playing some moves waiting for an opponent's blunder, especially against computers 1, 2 or 3. Computer 1 blunder very often in the finals when having a decesive advantage. And with computer 3, once I had my King and 1 pawn (blocked by other pawn) and the computer 3 had 6 pawns (5 of then passed) and ended with draw (stalemate). But I don't just wait till my time is over (I hate when someone else do it to me).

I once played a game where someone apparently thought they were beaten, and they didn't resign. They didn't even officially abandon it. I had to sit there for over twenty minutes waiting for my win. But in my opinion, its only a minor annoyance. Its not like the game is any less a win if your opponent flees.

frankooo

there were a couple of instances when stalemate occurs...

I don't actually mind it. It's like a reminder to have a break for a while but I don't like it when I'm like two rooks and a queen up and they don't resign
