Why download chess engine?

I just realised that for accessing in built engines you need to download them from the chess.com. Like the stockfish 16 engine is a 40MB download and so is Torch.

I don’t think this was the case before. I don’t remember needing to download these engines in chess.com. I don’t get why we need to download. Aren’t they supposed to be there in the site? And if we download them where is the data getting stored and how do I get rid of them as I don’t need stockfish 16’s 40MB engine.

All the Analysis tab engines run in the browser and the full Torch and Stockfish 16 NNUE are huge so have to fully load before they'll run. The are just loaded in cache

How does one “download them from chess.com”? Do they not automatically upload when I open the app on my phone or iPad?

The app has a single engine embedded for local analysis and there's nothing to download.
