I was more or less just repeating what I read, ESP-918. I personally don't think the game is from one time period or country, but more like several influences from several different places and time periods.

Yes good point I tend to agree with you on this one

    History can't be challenged. If the historians says it was originated in India, then it was. Historians have put in their efforts to unearth the facts. If you need the facts, better contact some historian or chess museum.

    Good Luck!

    Historians never say that it was originated in India, only you did , are you a Historian lol

Well, yes, I'm. And I declare that chess was originated in USSR and not India. Happy?

Why did you skip the most important part?

The history of chess can be traced back nearly 1500 years, although the earliest origins are UNCERTAIN. The earliest predecessor of the game PROBABLY originated in India, before the 6th century AD;

Pawn_Checkmate

Chess came from Chaturanga, so it's Indian.. Case closed-..-

Pawn_Checkmate

Chess as we know it now, probably from Spain.. Since they changed the elephant to bishop and the boat to Tower (rook) and a cross on the king's head.. Probably church infuenced.

Lol just an opinion not a fact

The history of chess can be traced back nearly 1500 years, although the earliest origins are UNCERTAIN. The earliest predecessor of the game PROBABLY originated in India, before the 6th century AD; a minority of historians BELIEVE the game originated in China. From India, the game spread to Persia. When the Arabs conquered Persia, chess was taken up by the Muslim world and subsequently spread to Southern Europe. In Europe, chess evolved into roughly its current form in the 15th century.

Russia didn't exist as a political entity then. If chess was invented in Northern India say, it might be more easily claimed as being invented by European invaders of those very distant times - the Brahmin class - as opposed to the  people on the sub continent contemporaneously identified as Indians.
