Anything that requires you to use your brain is considered nerdy by the large majority
Why is chess considered nerdy

Brain power will win and those people with only one brain cell will see there life fade away and there available opportunitys evaporate before there very eyes!

Because chess requires above average intelligence to play well, those without the smarts to compete write off something they cannot do as "nerdy." Most of those same people consider reading to be "nerdy." Smart to a dullard equals "nerdy."

This must be a little boy hangover thing, 'cause I've never been called "nerdy" for playing chess. I've actually had people say how much they "admire" me for playing chess! Really!
Now, when I talk about UFOs, or Star Trek episodes, I get called a nerd. In fact, someone said this to me at work last week, "You're this intelligent woman who plays chess, but then you talk about UFOs! Don't you think it's a bit weird?".

i think the people who think chess is nerdy are the people who would like to be masters but havent got the braines to study a little and enjoy the greatist game ever.
It's a game where, in order to be good, you have to spend a large portion of your life studying books. It's the very definition of nerdy. But that's okay. I like nerdy.

Chess isn't nerdy. It is a thinking man's game. That is far from nerdy.
Also, for what it's worth, in some countries the chess player is highly respected. Chess is very important in some cultures. Unfortunately, the rest of the world is a bit behind, but they'll catch on.
Honestly you shouldn't care what people think of it. If you love chess as much as I do, then go for it. Doesn't matter what other people say.
