So I understand that a norm is a high level performance at a tournament, but why is it referred to as a 'norm'?
Just a guess, but it's probably just related to the definition of the word norm: "something that is usual, typical, or standard."
So a GM /IM norm is the typical performance standard that a GM /IM would have in event where the norm is achieved.
