I am winning and all of the sudden, with ten seconds left, they start jumping back up to 36 and 45 seconds???!!! What gives!!

This is unethical. Yet again, it happened where a five-minute game went what seemed like 10 minutes and 68 moves. It doesn't matter if someone has "lag" or some delay. I had my opponent close to beat. And right at the end, he kept getting 40 seconds back. The game ended with me resigning and 41 seconds on his clock...and nearly 5 minutes on mine. This has never happened before a few weeks back, it seems. And it has me alternating my game to account for this rigged discrepancy. It's distracting to say the least...and unethical at most.
Bottom line: Sometimes people just run out of time. It's happened to me, too. You don't adjust a clock to account for someone's internet or "server lag."
All I ever get are these stupid upgrade ads around here to try and get me to become a paying member--sure glad I didn't now. Plus, the app on my phone doesn't show the pieces on the chess board, despite regular re-downloads to solve the problem.
I am likely going to find a better place to play chess online since this is a terrible platform.
I had a weird thing happened to me once on Lichess. I could have sworn I moved, and my opponent's clock was ticking. He eventually offered a draw, which I turned down. He eventually resigned. But when I went to move, postgame, his most likely reply, it was actually still my move... but it was my opponent's clock that was running down on time. His clock showed 14 minutes and mine was still nearly 18 minutes.
I can only guess that somehow my last move got lost on the internet, but before the move was registered with the chess server. Strange indeed. Felt like an episode of The Twilight Zone.
From 1600-something to 1100 in 1+ 0 bullet. Examples: opponent’s clock actually went backward, game started with 34 seconds for me, their clocks finish at 20+ seconds, pre moved for checkmate then my clock runs out anyway, watch opponents clock on their turn then my clock suddenly bumps down several seconds, …

Sounds like you were having connection issues.

Opponent was getting 4 seconds back during a 3/2 match? ended up losing ):
They were getting their normal 2 seconds and the clock was was also being adjusted due to lag compensation or you were getting short disconnects and the clocks got updated when you reconnected.
