Why is the book "No Regrets" by Yasser Seirawan, George Stefanovic so hard to get?

A question ... or two?

Why is the book "No Regrets" by Yasser Seirawan, George Stefanovic so hard to get? AND!! Why is it soooo expensive?

There also seems to be some kind of mystery regarding the publishing.  I have spoken to many individuals who would love to get a copy, but they are rare finds and IF you can find one, you're going to pay and I mean - PAY!  So, is there / was there some disagreement that has caused this book, (which clearly is in BIG demand) to be taken off the production line?  This seems like it would be an incredible read!

I also want to be careful not start any rumors.  I'm just honestly intrigued by the rareness of presence this book finds itself and when it does appear its usually in the hands of a collector.  What's the story? ...  Over the years the book NO REGRETS has always stayed in the back of my mind and I've always wondered what the story was behind a book and author who were a part of a big moment in chess history.  If the book is in such demand (and it is) why don't they simply turn on production and get more to the public.  Why is this book such a unicorn?

So, before I build up some incredible story in my head, I'm asking why is this book so sought after, yet so rare to get.  Why has this book become available at prices as high $896.00?  What am I missing  - what gives? LOL

Thanks All

The prices of used books online are set by mad algorithms.

There is little logic behind the price beyond the apparent supply of books offered by multiple online booksellers and the apparent demand.

What counts as real demand is uncertain. Is a Google search evidence of demand?  Maybe the prices will go up again today.

Or actual sales?

I don't know.

I see several places offering the book from near $200 to over $500.

I see that it is available from 15 libraries.

Good luck.

Thank you for the comment.  Do you know anything else about the book itself.  There seems to be an enigma around it.  Maybe its being weird, but there just seems to be a silence about this book that just make me want it more ..... but not for $200 or $896!!

Oh well, my search continues.

It's an out-of-print book and high-quality book about Fischer. And some people are extremely interested in Fischer; hence the high price. Check out the review of the book by Edward Winter (who is generally excellent):

The book is Yasser Seirawan's day-by-day account of the 1992 Fischer-Spassky return match.  Heavy emphasis on the extended personal interactions that he had hanging out with Bobby.  I found it to be one of the most insightful and detailed portraits I've read of the man, his personality, his genius, his sense of humor, and of course his flaws.  Yasser has excellent writing style - it's a hard book to put down.  Good, detailed analysis of the games, too.  Great book.

That seems kinda mean, what do you have against Yasser?

And to clarify, when I said "one of the most insightful and detailed portraits I've read of the man", I was referring to Fischer, not Yasser.

$1800 dollars seems ridiculous and it is but I have seen other books out of print with people asking for exorbitant amounts of money for them.  Its really strange that a book that is seemingly in such demand is not republished.  I would think there is some profit to be had.

No thanks.

Heh. Yasser still has that same face expression when he laughs.
