There are about 310,000 FIDE-rated men and 33,000 FIDE-rated women (as of 2019).
With 10 times as many men as women playing competitive chess, then if we assume that their distribution of skills is identical (same bell curve) then of course the men will have far more high-rated outliers, and will extend much further into the high ratings.
