Why Men Dominate in the World of Chess

Jill_St_James it was just a joke. But I do believe that men are more likely to get addicted to hobbies, games, and sports than women are.

The wire nerves of men are 2 or 3 times more conductive and fast!! Women are smart but this skill cant make you a winner just a happy girl!!
Likely there are some biological factors that favour men in chess but also a cultural thing. More men play chess.

men are just better physiologically for some reason. people dont want to admit it but thats the case
if it weren't true then there would be alot more 2700 rated women

Biology isn't as crazy as you think.... there's a bit more to it than just opportunities and conditions I believe

honestly this thread kinda made me depressed because i got (permanent?) brain damage from an illness and i (might) not ever be able to play normally again

Now you can play women!
nah i was already a woman so i guess i can only play kids now

"Why Men Dominate". Because men more stronk. /s no, because men simply more, many more. men are neither better nor worse than women, but the artificial women only tournaments makes it next to impossible to actually gauge the strength of domination of the genders. In my opinion gender only tournaments should be abolished so we could get the totally expected confirmation that women are not worse at chess than men.
The issue is that more men play chess, so a larger percentage of good players are men. Also, coaches and parents statistically think male students have more potential and encourage them to train more as kids.
"I might never have become a chess grandmaster if I’d stuck to women-only tournaments. I could never have reached those heights if I had only been interested in winning women’s titles. In fact, I was only a teenager when I last participated in a women’s tournament. I always knew that in order to become the strongest player I could, I had to play against the strongest possible opposition. Playing only among women would not have helped my development. The higher your goals, the higher you reach. Imagine if the Chinese grandmaster Hou Yifan – who became women’s world champion in 2010 at the age of 16, and is now the highest ranked female player in the world – had played in open tournaments since her teenage years." Judit hit the nail on the head I think.

there are plenty of reasons why men dominate chess.
first of all more men play chess so statistically you will see more men at the top than you will see women.
second, while men and women average intelligence is the same, men tends to be on the extreme of both sides, meaning they are really dumb and can be really smart.
thirdly, as a previous post pointed out, women who only play in women tournaments dont put themselves up against the best of the best out there and dont necessarily have the same opposition and training that men do.

magnus' thoughts
no one watched the whole video? it was short though.. typical. last generation..
he mentioned an important point toward to the end. he observed many children in different countries, where girls and boys had not much of a difference at chess, girls play as much as boys do.. but then some environmental effects kicks in..
it seems like a cultural effect.. we're doing this, it's not a natural thing. it doenst have to be that way. but it's easier to say that women are dumb.. right?

Well for starters, mens and womens intellects are not the same.
In the UK when the exam system used to feature 'O Levels', pass rates were much higher for boys and girls very rarely passed.
Much research was done to understand why - these qualifications only had exams and no other grading material, it was found that men perform far better at exams due to being better at the same thing that affects statistical thinking and analysis.
On the other hand, they found that girls perfomed better in coursework and actually applying what they were learning outside of exam situations. Adding coursework to O Levels which is what turned them into the current GCSEs had a twofold impact - more boys began to fail, and more girls began to pass.
So chess is something that is much closer in brain work to an exam than it is to coursework, ot most definitely feels that way when playing it anyway.
