why no chinese on chess.com?

I  joined chess.com quite recently and while I have seen players from virtually every country, it recently struck me that I am yet to see a single chinese player on this site. Any ideas why? 

And how would you know that they are Chinese?  Just because they chose the flag??

I also don't see many Finland flags... if at all.  But all the countries that are close I see flags for them on the forum.

chess.com works OK at best in China.

Live Chess doesn't work so well in China (from the looks of the sheer amount of complaints on chess.com it's not just china with this problem).

I'm forever getting dreaded the connection interrupted warning when playing live chess and therefore losing plenty of games through no fault of my own.I have tried playing in various cities too, from friends apartments to five star hotels with high-speed internet, same result: connection interrupted.

Therefore you might see far less Chinese people playing live chess because it's just not worth the hassle.

Any videos posted on youtube.com will obviously be inaccessible to 99.99% of the Chinese population too, the other 0.01% could use a VPN but it will be slow.

So therefore, i'm not quite sure how useful any kind of paid membership is for Chinese users.

Asia has its own popular chess platforms, just like they have their own popular social network sites and so forth.

To better understand this, ask yourself why aren't you using eastern chat apps and search engines and so forth. The answer is that it's a bit of a cultural thing. The east has a bit of a different online culture from the west.
