Why so many have left Chess.com

Less than a year ago, chess.com use to give a time warning to all players. This function has been removed and now players are losing games based on time and not skill. Does chess.com think that players watch the clock instead of the game? Or that they will keep returning to this website? I heard that to get a time warning that you have to pay for membership. I understand why so many have left chess.com in the past year. There is a new chess website just opened and still being developed. IT'S TIME TO LEAVE A WEBSITE THAT IGNORES WHAT PEOPLE WANT AND NEED. Thank's chess.com. It has been fun but you just don't have the edge you once had

Bowser

What are you talking about? There’s still a low time warning. Make sure you have it turned on in the live chess settings.

@u0y comadfa is right - NO sound warning. You must be someone who pays for membership like was mentioned

If you actually read my post, you’ll see that the sound warning must be turned on in settings. This is not a member-only feature. I’ve attached an image that shows the setting you need toggled for you to get the low-time warning. I would appreciate it if you would actually read my post before posting a condescending comment.

u0y for the win.
I feel for you comadfa. That feeling you get when you go on a rant and then find out your whole premise is false…it sucks.

SacrificeTheHorse

I mean...even if there was no sound warning it's still up to each player to be aware of how much time they have left.

Bowser

@GenghisKent Lol, I would love to know where he heard ”that to get a time warning you have to have a membership”

canadian_rt

tbf the guy is trying to find a reason to leave the site, they're probably gonna leave anyways regardless if their rant/argument is correct or not

witty_cupcake

Not sure about the time warning because my games lost decades, but if comadfa is noticing a difference then it's a valid concern for him.

Personally, chesscom just isnt a welcoming site like it used to be, imho! It used to be a community where you could watch great games and interact with the others watching and get viewpoints, humor, suggestions. Bummer so much about chesscom has changed and been lost.

Lots of people are abusive if you keep chat on so i get why they might have felt the need to get rid of the community stuff. Really, though, all people had to do was use the mute button so why throw the baby out with the bath water?

Cat_Blues

the website is "fine"....I still don't know why I need to pay extra to play a hundreds year old game. w/e

vovolasha

I do think people should leave chess.com....it sucks if u are a brokie like me

am also a brokie, not to mention am from a developing country,  so i find membership is sooo expensive yet i asked here for a free membership once in forum, but one guy replied the site need money...

oookay

i think people have to be used such things..

this's how chessdotcom works (through payment), so one should not complain otherwise there's alot sites such as chess 24 & lichess...

Thanks (i mainly talk Arabic, so avert if there's grammar mistakes or smth)

Yeah, back in the Middle Ages they could play it online for free.

ayy ur right I understand they need to keep the servers running I just think they could improve the UX without losing profit. IDK i tried paid chess.com for a while. the only thing I enjoyed was unlimited puzzles and analysis (honestly these barriers are here cause chess.com knows people will pay for those things.) So I'll keep using the site until things get blatent, or use the one site which must not be named

but i can premove (playing a move during my opponent time),, i think this is an advantageous feature for a basic member like me...

coming SOON (tm) premove delay for free members!!!! don't give them such ideas wow

Pebber60

Do you get a time warning when playing  otb.

Cat_Blues

i think 99% of my games end in me timing out. I choose to believe 1. we never used clocks as kids and 2. I dont care if u get all whiny, you chose the time and increment I chose them for a reason

is it possible!!,,, OMG

why would they make paid members happy at the cost of free members to be sad,,,

that's completely not fair..

it should be that they invent a new feature for the paid members but not to attenuate a basic existed feature for the free members..

other wise, paid members plays paid members & free members plays free members, this way it becomes fair to both members..

I did read what you wrote and the option is checked on, the problem is there is NO WARNING SOUND. It might work for you, but I m not the only one this happens to. And to all those people who couldn't help but to say 'I watch the clock and play chess at the same' Ain't you amazing? Imagine if everyone was like you? But everyone is different and some people prefer to concentrate on the game and not the clock. Some people come here to play chess and others to read and comment on the forums.
