Will chess.com still exist 100 years later?

I wonder about that

Probably. It's been around for a while, so I wouldn't expect it's going away. How popular it remains is another question.

Probably not. Chess can be solved now so it probably will be solved within 100 years.
The future will probably be chess960 and 15|10 rapid.
High level competitions will probably cease to exist because of all draws.
The game may still be around as a casual game, a bit like checkers, connect four, nine men's morris.

Chess itself will not die

In the future any chess platform will have more members, more games....hence more data to save

How does a site as big as chess.com afford ultra large data base..hmmm

Wits-end

Yes, of course chess.com will still be around. And yes, of course there will be a plethora of threads complaining about the cyber-inter-galactic-latency issues for those living on Jupiter and Pluto.

Prolly not.

As a long time Internet user, the same thing always happens.

1st. A website becomes very popular.

2nd. The old guy running the website dies, retires or just gets bored.

3rd. The old guy sells it to a person who flips websites.

4th. Dude who flips website ruins everything to gain a quick buck.

5th. Everyone leaves to a new website.

6th. The website remains, but it is only held on by nostalgia by old time users. Eventually that isn't enough to support it and it closes.

chess is not solved right now. Solved means that a mathematical solution has been proven to exist, that forces a win or that a draw is forced with no win

Chess is not solved to a draw yet, but in 100 years it will be, probably much sooner.
Checkers also declined before and after it was solved to a draw.

100 years? Well according to the democrats we're all gonna die from climate change before that so stop worrying my friend

The thing is, computers might be able to play to a draw, but people are really good at making slightly suboptimal moves, creating a imbalance, leading to a win

"The fatal hour of this ancient game is approaching. In its modern form this game will soon die a drawing death - the inevitable victory of certainty and mechanization will leave its stamp on the fate of chess." - Lasker
The world championship match Caruana - Carlsen: 12 draws in 12 classical games indicates we come close.

chess.com?

Almost certainly not.  I'd bet against it.

Chess?  Probably be around a 1000 years from now.

But online chess might die.  Engines already are a huge problem.  Bots that emulate really good but flawed human play are definitely able to be made.  Cheating could kill on-line chess.

But OTB will be a thing forever.

Wits-end

It will exist and the game as well. Be very careful though. The pieces will be red and blue. TDs will ask if you want to choose the “red piece or the blue piece.” Be very careful.

please stop bringing politics into this

It will be your choice. Choose the blue ones and remain blissfully ignorant. There is no shame in being blissfully ignorant. Most days I wish for just that.
