will chess ever die out once its fully solved?

when we look at games they are made to be entertaining competitive fulled of fun, adventure, thrill and excitement giving chances to both sides but what would happen if the game was solved with everyone knowing who will win and how ends. this has happened with checkers and that game has died out completely with only a little bit of popularity from my observation but do you think the same will happen to chess once its solved as well?

No

oh

Kowarenai

then how come checkers is dying more?

Fayez58

We will die before then. So who cares? King Gambit is solved as it is bad for white. Do people still play it? Yes. So even if it will be solved, no one will care unless you are super GM

1. It will never be solved, unless the world exists for another googolplex years (maybe even more). There is just too much variety in this game for it to simply be "solved".

2. Even if it is "solved", will people take the time to memorize every single combination of moves possible in the game of chess? I'm 99.99999999999999...999999999999999...etc% sure that no, humans are humans and not bots and will probably lose their minds trying to fathom this vastly complex game.

I would have typed an answer, but what you wrote perfectly captures what I was going to say

noImAparrot

i dont think humans will be able to remember every single line and what to combat with every move in the near future, so mostly likely, no.

It only has 1 type of piece, and you can't even move to half the squares on the board.

Even if it were to be solved, I highly doubt someone even better than Magnus could memorize every single move for every line of every opening AND know the best response when the opponent doesn't play the best move. That just isn't possible.

I don't understand comments like this.

It's like saying "I doubt that no matter how much somone ate, they would be able to weight more than the earth."

Well yeah, but... saying it means you thought it was a little possible when it's just silly.

They don't have to remember every possible move though thats the thing.  Just the best lines for a few openings.

What if someone plays an opening that isn't one of the best? How will they beat it?

(never mind that it would be more than "a few" best openings)

Yes, competitive chess will die out just like checkers, connect-four, nine men's morris after these were solved. That Carlsen is reluctant to defend his title in classical chess already is a sign.
Solving chess is already within reach of present cloud computers. It is just a matter of time and money before it is solved.

FrediHarcos

No, as people won't be able to remember all the variations if chess does become solved, and it is impossible that chess does get solved as there are too many possible outcomes.

HelpNeedsHelp

I think how chess is played will change, but I doubt it's going to die out. If anything, it might become more accessible than ever in the future as it gets easier to identify how to play properly.

well if its not one of the best its not one of the best for a reason lol.  That means you just have to memorize all those moves too.

Fixed that for you.

I beg your pardon. What is your point here?

You underestimate the photographic memories these guys have.

Photographic memory is a detestable myth.

When it is solved, it will be impossible to memorise. All 7 men endgames are fully solved, and yet Nepo lost a table base drawn position in game 6 of the world championship match.
