World TV Chess Championship. Spencer Reid (Criminal Minds) vs MacGyver.

MacGyver could get out of a jail cell with a stick of gum.
He could diffuse a ticking time bomb with a paper clip.
He could fix a broken down vehicle with duck tape and a screwdriver.
However, none of these abilities would help him over the chessboard. So even though I've never seen Criminal Minds, I'd have to go with Spencer Reid. (But Spock could probably beat both of them blindfolded.)

Don't forget that Reid couldn't see a Mate in 1 comming early in the series.
Spock would be good but his ears may not pass the dress code

That's true but don't forget that as a rule characters in TV shows and movies can almost never see a mate in 1 when they're on the losing side.
Very true, they also set the board up the wrong way around as well

I think Reid has improved over the years. I have no idea about MacGyver's abilities (or lack thereof), but I have faith in Reid.

Yeah, Reid did improve as the series evolved but then he committed a huge blunder when he didn't know the correct meaning of Zugzwang which was used in a couple of episodes including 1 bearing that title.
I guess this sort of thing just gets up my nose when it would be so easy for the writers to get it right with minimum research.

Who wins & why? This is the classic battle of pure intellect versus lateral thinking.
Also when we work that out who would win the next Candidates tournament to challenge the Champion?
