Worst chess books covers; best chess book covers

I think this might be a fun topic.

The absolutely worst chess book cover is the one on Pelts and Alburts Chess Course #1. There sits a woman by a little girl with a chess board in front of them. But the woman is not looking at the chess board. She is smiling at the camera, showing her white necklace, white ear rings, white bracelet, white teeth, (and her - er - cleavage.)

The child  is at least looking at the chess board, and touching one of the chessmen, though at the same time holding out a strand of her hair in her hand. (I have a feeling the little girl was bribed big time to pose in the picture.)

The other horrible cover we have already discussed is the one on the front of "Chess Training Pocket Book 300 etc.) There sits Lev Alburt smiling at the chess board with a blond woman literally draped over him. One wonders why he is smiling.

The BEST cover is full of imagination and humor. There are two of them. The covers of Farnsworth's Predator at the Chess Board Vol.1 and 2. I now own these books. You can look up the book covers on the site chesstactics.org and scroll down a little and on the right it will mention the books. Click there and you will see both covers. (The books cover what is on the web site which is interactive.)

I like a lot of the more abstract covers, too.

But what do you think is the worst? The best?

Coolest Chess Book cover in the world!

The cover of Lev Albert's book looks like Nazi propaganda! lol  They are actually good books though, but the tactics one is made somewhat obsolete by chess.com

This one's pretty bad:

This one's even worse:

I don't know, Grobe, the cover to Chess Tactics for Kids that you posted is by far the worst book cover I've seen. Just what exactly is the red-shirted man handing to the blue-shirted man behind him? Why is the red guy juggling a handful of those same things?

That Chess Tactics for Kids looked pretty humorous to me. I especially like the upset kid throwing the temper tantrum.

Yeah and those Lev Alburt books have some pretty sleazy looking covers.

I think these are cool...

I have to agree with the Streetfighting Chess cover as being the coolest.

Hey, has anyone noticed that most chess books just end...like, the end of a variation and finished.  A lot of authors don't put a last paragraph summing anything up or wishing you luck or anything...just....end...QXf8++

LOL those are some great covers!

and Hoklanie, I *DO* know what you mean!  It's downright strange!
