Your experiences with coaches

Dear Brasileirosim,
I'm a Hungarian Fide Master and an official chess coach. I have 32 students right now but I always look for new students.
You can find a lot of information and feedback about my coaching services on my profile (https://www.chess.com/member/bgabor91).
Please, let me know if you are interested in learning from me.
Best regards,
Gabor

It made a big difference for me. I like to be able to ask questions and discuss ideas. You can't do that with a video. It's all one way communication and I usually start to lose focus after 15 minutes if I'm passively listening and watching.

I’ve never tried tho I’ve wanted to but I couldn’t because the costs I’ve never been able to afford it.That said I’ve heard great things and some have even done a game or two with me where they helped me out.

I think I know what I should do. I will try to "coach myself", sort out the things I would like to improve and behave like I would try to help a stranger. Doing so I would not be ashamed to go through my games full of blunders, as they are not "my games ", but from my student. I have a lot of great books which are full of great advice.

You have a crazy bullet rating! I mean, I simply don’t get how somebody can get that high. I lose basically against everybody in bullet.
Do you play mostly bullet?

I was coached by a GM a few times. Honestly didn't feel worth the $$$ I spent. Felt I could learn the same stuff from youtube or even a Chess.com diamond membership. I think a coach becomes necessary once you hit a plateau... like I have now. lol

We expect from a coach that he takes over the job of thinking, planning, finding out which are the priorities, etc. However, this is our job, right? Most of the time I am simply too lazy.

had a couple chess.com coaches, the most recent was a WGM. i was happy, got some insight on what im doing well, and where i need improvement, honestly its just nice when someone can untangle all the stuff i sewed together in my head. currently on chessable doing a couple courses. very pleased with that so far also.

idk why, but seeing these titled players promote their coaching is infuriating lol.
Lol same but I’ve gotten used to it but for a while I thought the same thing
It depends on your level. Sure a coach can help even a bad one, if only points out errors you cannot see.
But, if you are at the beginner level, you can see your errors. Most beginners make the same errors: they lose pieces and pawns. How? They put a piece onto a unsafe square, undefend what they had defended, and do not defend what is attacked. So look for these errors in your games and work on eliminated them. In other words, study your own games first.

Analyse the games is the number. However, most players can't look at games they lost. This and the fact that we usually play blitz, and we are pre moving "next game" after losing. Ridiculous, I know.
