That was the reason I wasn't able to get the free trial too. And because you don't have to pay for it, the don't need your credit card, so I think they don't have to ask for it...
10-day free trial membership

The idea is to give your parents credit card details.
They are completely required- if you didn't need to give them, people could just keep creating new accounts and using the free trial period. This way, chess.com makes sure the same credit card details aren't used twice.

True, but there should be some way to avoid that.
But what when a parent pays for his/her children memberships? Can't all children have memberships because of lack of credit cards??

What are you talking about? You don't have to pay for anything, just get the free trial and then cancel the deal. The credit card details are completely in confidence, and is the ONLY realistic way to prevent misuse of the system.

I meant that a parent can't buy annual memberships to his/her all children if he/she doesn't have enough credit cards. And it's surely a bad system that should be changed.

It's to stop you from obtaining multiple free trials -- there are no restrictions on purchasing multiple accounts.

Yes, but now I have no possibility to get that...
Do what I did to pay for my membership. Go to a bank, buy a prepaid credit card in the necessary denomination, then sign up.

From the membership purchase payment page:

Hey, wouldn't it be strange if a 13-year-old went to a bank and asked "can I have a credit card?"???

I'm sure they would sell a prepaid card to a minor. Its basically just a universal gift card. I buy them all the time, as I have had my info ripped off twice shopping online, so this way, its safer.

suppose you,re an orphan, or your parents are not available for whatever reason. i don,t have a credit card. just a debit card. what if you,re in foster care.
I haven't heard of it (in the Netherlands) too.
And when this would be possible a cheater simply buys each 10 days a credit card with a few euro's (dollars)... (so the system doesn't even work).
edit: another problem is that you have only 24 hours to gain the free membership, so when you see it when you have only 12 hours left it might be that you are not able to buy such a credit card before the possibillity is over.
Wow.... If you really can't get a credit card then you can't take advantage of the trial, its as simple as that. Nothing in life is perfectly fair. This organization has to make a business decision in order to avoid being ripped off by some members who may abuse the system to avoid paying for a membership. As a web developer who deals with these types of problems on a regular basis I can tell you to google the idea and you find many case studies online. If you are into chess I'm sure there is a way for a parent or relative to secure a debit, credit, or prepaid card for you to secure membership. Good luck!
I got a message that I could get a 10-day free trial membership. I clicked on it, and it told me to give my credit card number. I don't have a credit card, just like many other children, so it looks like the free trial is only for adults (that have credit cards). I think that it's terribly unfair! Anyone agrees with me?
