On a slightly related note, do you know if usage of the app will count as web browsing and eat up 5¢ per page?
403 error when downloading mobile chess.com app

do you have a browser on your phone? then go to http://chess.com/mobile
if you can't download it, then likely your phone does not support java 2 midlets...

Look at the information above please. As previously stated, my phone -IS- J2ME compatable and -DOES- support java 2 midlets. A pdf from the offical lg website here confirms that. Yes I am going to chess.com/mobile on my mobile. As annoyed as I am at the suggestion I know that there probably is somebody stupid enough out there...

By your description it sounds as when you press the link on your phone it doesn't even start the download of the app it just gives you the 403 error. Have you downloaded anything similar without problems before? If not try contacting your carrier and ask if there is some kind of block on certain material ( the link points to a .jad file ). I am grasping at straws here.
On another note I can see from the specs that your screen resolution is 120 x 160 which is very small for the mobile app and it probably wont look to good.

Another option could be : Download the jar to your PC:
http://www.chess.com/download/view/chesscom-mobile-chess
and try pushing it to your phone via bluetooth/cable
Hi, every time I've tried going to http://www.chess.com/mobile I end up with a 403 error after clicking on the download link. I've tried using an SMS... but It refused to send the message when I put my number (555-555-5555 form gives me an authentication error. 5555555555 gives me a failure to send error).
My current provider is telus. My phone is a J2ME compatable LG 285. I have nothing to transfer files from my computer to my phone.
