A mod or admin threatened to ban me...

A mod or admin sent a message to me saying I will be banned, but didn't say what for. We were having a nice game, my opponent and I. I find it very, very odd that such a message would pop up. Can one of you chess.com police tell me why this happened?

If you say something that could possibly be construed as a swear word or abusive language, then you may or may not receive warnings. The auto-mod detected something in your speech and delivered this warning. Only talk about rainbows and unicorns and, for the love of God, do not mention anything about Scunthorpe. Or you could use incredibly simple tricks that are ten years old to avoid this filter, in which case you can be very abusive without reprisal (unless the person reports you manually).

Ah, I see...just trying to cut down on amount of trollish young sailor talk. I understand.

Richard

Leap_Van, along with being auto warned by the automod for cursing or using innappropriate lanuage, you may also be auto warned for spamming.

i.e ( tyoing the same thing over and over, or tying short sentences reli fast)

Hi Leap_van      Smile

I refer to your statement ......."A mod or admin sent a message to me saying I will be banned, but didn't say what for. "

Does make it clear to me you will be banned without reason but does not state from what date you will be banned.

Regardless of the genuineness of the message, you should contact and request chess.com administration to look into the message, its source and the truth of it's substance.

It does seem a most odd message to receive!

So....give yourself peace of mind.......and check it out ......     Smile    Smile

Richard

King_Conqueror,

It is a popup message that was most likely sent auotmatically by the live chess auto mod, for either using a word or innapropriate lanuage that is recognised by the filter or he was either spamming by typing too fast or repetively.

Unless he received a persoanl message by staff to his profile acc stating that he will be banned then it is just the auomods generic message popup, to prevent abuse.

Either way he is not banned and so as long as conntinues to obey chess.com rules should be fine

 What's so bad about Scunthorpe?

Richard

The Mouse, if someone uses a way to get around the filter, you can ask for a mod or staff in "main hall" "help and support room" or pri chat, and they can then view your game chat.

If its after a game, you can copy and paste the text and fill out a report to staff here:

http://support.chess.com/Tickets/Submit

If its just a trivial thing you may simply, leave the game chat and  block your opponent after the game.

Nxavar: Scunthorpe, the name of a town in the UK, contains a string of letters that form the naughtiest word in the English language.

The Mouse: Yes, that's why I mentioned it in my post.

Leap_Van

I was typing fast as I do, but I did use the word "p!ss" in gest, so that likely was the reason.

Richard

That may have been a reason then yes, an attempt to by pass the filter lol

And it's a pretty grim place too

No, the actual "P" word was used. I adjusted it here in case of the same issue.

The name Scunthorpe--whose unassuming syllables are pronounced as "scun" and "thorpe"--is believed to be derived from an Old Norse word, "escumetorp," meaning "farmstead belonging to Skuma." But the name's etymology isn't what made it notorious.

Scunthorpe first entered the American vernacular around 1996, back in the Internet's infancy. That's when, legend has it, AOL's automated filtering system kept Scunthorpians from registering for accounts because of a certain sequence of four letters found within their town's name. As recently as 2004, services like Google's SafeSearch reportedly were still flagging Web sites that contained the term.
