Always playing black.

When I play "live chess" and issue a challenge I almost always have to play black. How do I control what side I get?

How do I set up to respond to a challenge?

Thanks.

Well, if you are playing unrated games, check your settings on the play live chess page and see if you have checked always play black.

Indications are you have an excess amount of White.

 WinsLossesDrawsGames
Total 66 (36) 118 (64) 1 (1) 185
White 43 (43) 55 (56) 1 (1) 99 (54)
Black 24 (28) 63 (72) 0 (0) 87 (47)

It is possible the issue was in the past where you were getting White too often and now the programming is attempting to even this out. Accept all the Black offered until the totals even out.

Thanks to all!

Just downloaded chess.com. Not sure why but I for some reason I’ve only been black. I’ve played 15 matches in a row and only black. Are you not allowed to play white as a new player? I even abandoned 4 matches to try and get white to no resolve. It says it’s proportional but can’t seem I can’t seem to play as white. Would be a great app after you fix this annoying bug. Anyways I’ll be sure to check again in the future but until then I’ll continue to use your competitor!

You haven't played any games.

The simple fact that you can play 10+ games as black is a huge issue with this site. Fix the problem, don't make it a player's problem. I came here to learn chess, not find your software bugs.

Your max string of blacks has been 3. It's possible you've had more and you've aborted, but aborting isn't a good way to try and avoid it. The site recently updated code to minimize long strings of a single color.

Martin, I was referring to ChestingRook that played15 matches in a row all black. Also even playing 3 games in a row being black is annoying. Again, having you alternate from black to white is not difficult to accomplish with the number of players on this system.

Then you must have missed the member hadn't played any games in the account happy

However, around the time that was posted, there had been a bug where members were getting longer streaks, bit that was fixed relatively quickly.

As to alternating, it's harder than you would think. The system has to find a compatible seek where both players meet the rating range requirements, and have the same time control selected. Adding a requirement that the opponent also is due a certain color would likely increase the time to pair.

How much more time would it really take? Another 10sec? 20sec? 10min? to find a compatible seek? My suggestion if a partner is not found in 10 to 20sec is to simply ask the player if it is ok to play as a given color. This at least gives the player an option to continue or not rather than having them abort games.

This is a HUGE problem with chess.com. 10+ games as black is bs. It’s obviously not random as this is consistently an issue…. allll the time I’m black. It’s simple to fix, keep track of a user’s last game color and then only match them with a player so they get the opposite color next. If you do this for everyone it’ll be split 50/50.. problem solvable!

You have played in the last 90 days 942 games as white and 934 as black.

manwithaplan234

So I played 2 blitz tournaments. I played 14 total games and 13 were as black. The one white game was the first game in the tournament.

Why is chess.com giving me a permanent disadvantage in these tournaments?

Does chess.com favor certain players over others?

Chess.com make do not give a dang about players and fair play. It's a game-design tactic where you losing keeps you coming back. Too much black has been an issue reported for YEARS. And everytime you ask support why, they tell you some B.S. response about their algorithm which creates a fabricated number that makes it look like the games in white and black are close. But you're playing yourself and you see that it's drastically different. I've gone Black almost 7 times in a row on many occasions, I have NEVER had white more than twice in a row. It's deceitful nonsense.

You had white three times on a row on the 5th, 6th, 8th, and 9th, (here's the 9th)

It's possible to get strings but the current method, where the player lost due black, shouldn't end up with long strings of the sane color very often.

Your all time color allocation for blitz is 1,209 games as white and 1,182 as black
