Android tablet: app vs browser?

Hi all, I'd appreciate any feedback:

I'd like to buy a 7 or 8 inch android tablet. Does anyone use something like the Galaxy Tab 2 (7 inch) to play on chess.com?

If so, do you use the app, or simply use the browser to go to the site?

I'm specifically interested in how Live Chess works on the Galaxy Tab 2 7 inch (or similar tablets like archos, lenovo, nexus, etc).

Thanks in advance!

Ok, I'm surprised no one has any opinion on this. I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7 inch) with Android 4.1.1 and am trying it out. So far here's what I've found

1. Playing Live Chess in the android browser is a little annoying but works based on brief tests. It's small, but if you use the "Simple Board" it will allow you to resize the board to pretty much fill the screen. It's fiddly: to select options and start a game, I started in landscape mode, started the game, then switched to portrait, maximized the board, and was able to play. I guess it's adequate if this is your only option.

2. Using the app is much better (the board automatically fills the screen, etc). All I've done so far with the app is to try 3 tactics problems and start a live game. No issues - so far so good!

I'll post more when I have more to say about stability or bugs. Others feel free to chime in.

I'll continue my lonely thread...

So far I've played several Live Chess games on my 7" android tablet (Galaxy Tab 2, with Android 4.1). I've also done a number of tactics puzzles.

I think this device is the perfect size for playing chess. The board is big enough that there's no issue with accidentally tapping the wrong piece. Small enough to be very portable (take to the chess club for analysis, play on the train, etc).

I haven't had any connection issues or instability with the Chess.com android app yet. Seems much better than the (probably out of date) ipad app that I had used a few times last year and found very buggy. I suspect the ipad app issues have been fixed as well.

Anyhow, big thumbs up so far, on the device size AND the chess.com app.

Reboc,

Thanks for your input and review, I am looking at a 7" tablet and was wondering how it worked on them, so thankyou very much, you have helped me out.

Do you have the 3G model ? or do you use it in wifi mode ?

I am considering the Nexus 7 32BG wifi model, and then using my mobile phone as a hotspot internet connection, when away from my house and wireless router.

Hello after ... 12 years! We have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ here, I'm wondering how chess would be on it. I saw somewhere (can't find it now -- ??) to download the Kiwi browser and chessconnect app or extension or something, and then one can use chess.com. Is it just to play? Or is it all features of chess.com? I'm not the person who has the Tab, so I can't just answer my questions right now. (I'm thinking of getting a Tab for myself only...)
