Annoying notifications since last update

Hi.

Since the last update (v3.7.3.-19683 on android 8.1.0. Xiaomi Mi A1) the android app started to bombard me with notifications that both make sound and vibrate the phone. I have turned off all notifications in the app.
Any time I make a move in correspondence chess, another notification appears informing me of a move made by an opponent in another game. Every single time I make a move, a different notification appears.
And when any of my opponent makes any move, another notification appears, every time.

Is there a fix for this?
I don't want every single move being announced, it's really annoying. If I have 10 games, and all last 30 moves, that's 300 notifications in a few days.
Before the update, there was no notifications, only when I opened the app. Then I could see that it's my turn in X or Y games, all in a list.
Since the update, my phone rings and vibrates every time one of my opponents make a move.

Please help.

Bump.

I'm getting all these notifications too. I make a move and get a few notifications as soon as it's completed.

In settings -> notifications, you can switch off some of the notifications for mobile.

https://www.chess.com/settings/notifications

I think one of the most relevant switches is to turn off

"It's my move in a Daily Chess game"

for mobile.

Thanks. I don't see the point of having the option to fully turn off every notifications in the app if you have to turn it off on the desktop version too.

GnrfFrtzl

Well, that didn't solve the problem.
The notifications are still there.

Turned all of them off in the app.
Turned all of the mobile ones in the site.
Still the same.

So have you already reported it to chess.com staff?

Seems this needs fixing. Best describe exactly to them what it is.

I have no idea how to submit something anymore, the site changed so much.
Thought that someone would provide a fix.

ilmago

Bottom left, "Help".

To get a fix, tell those who can do it.

GnrfFrtzl

There's no post regarding the problem I have.

ilmago

Do not use the forums there.

Tell chess.com staff directly.

The more exact your description is, the better the chances that they will be able to fix it soon.

You could click on "Make a suggestion" or on "report a bug" when they ask you which category your message is about.

GnrfFrtzl

Will do. Thanks.

Whatever happened to sending them an e-mail? Can't find that option, either.

ilmago

What you have there is much better than an email. It will put your message directly into their system, so that it will have the best chances to get into their work flow most easily. Best make it short and concise, so that it can be read easily, and make it detailed enough to make sure they can understand what exactly your message is describing.

Any email would just reach one person, who would then have the personal task to judge whether it is relevant, and the personal burden to put it into the system of their work flow ... and then it still would end up being more difficult to contact you back in case there is a question for details or clarification. So I am not surprised that email is no longer among the usual ways to contact them about such such things.

Postafi, that is the same settings as I linked above.

GnrfFrtzl

That's the thing.
Cleared the cache, and everything.
Reinstalled the app. Restarted the phone.
Disabled all the notifications in the app. All of them.
Disabled all mobile notifications in the desktop.

Nothing happened.
Whenever I make a move in daily, the phone rings and vibrates.
Whenever an opponent makes a move in daily, the phone rings and vibrates.
If, let's say, an opponent of mine is in the U.S. and makes his/her move
in our game in the evening, I'll get a notification at night.

And then another, and another. For every single move.

There's also a strange "delay" that I guess is because of the different
timezones on different servers.
There were instances when I made a move when I only had 12 or so hours left in a game.
A few more passes, and the app notifies me that I'm running out of time on the same game,
even though it's now my opponent's turn.

Well, I don't mind that second one, that's just funny,
but the first is driving me crazy, to be honest.

GnrfFrtzl

I understand I should not, but I do.
Even when I make a move in daily in the desktop version, and my phone is on wifi or data, the phone still vibrates and rings after a move is completed, in synch with the browser version.

Other apps work just fine, like they should.
I do not get a notification for an e-mail on my phone when the same account is open in a browser, for example.

It's only chess.com, and it's only since the latest update (2018.09.11. android update).

Was this ever solved?   I made the mistake of logging in on my work computer.   Now I get pop-ups there if I have Chrome open.

My Notifications options is "OFF", and I'm logged off chess.com in Chrome.  There are no chess.com extensions in Chrome.  There seems to be a back-door installed somewhere.

What am I missing?
