Any way to stop click to move?

I am constantly getting moves I dont want because of the click to move feature, as I will drag a piece somewhere, then change my mind and put it off to the side where it wont move, then click to get rid of the highlight, and end up accidently clicking a square that it can move to.

Is there no way to make it ONLY drag to move?

jaclyn

Unfortunately, no, we don't offer the option to disable click to move. Sorry!

mwayy

This is ridiculous.

Merik725

why not

mwayy

I just checked and it's still saying that "you can always use either method". That means that both work at the same time. I don't understand why there's even an option.

mwayy

Website.

I'm not sure if you understand. The problem is that I do NOT want them both to work at the same time. If you're offered an option to choose one and not the other, you kinda expect that the option you didn't choose will stay disabled.

Talbe48

wow, I mean like how there is not an option for that wtf.

this is not that hard to do and a lot of people want this feature

ArcadR

kinda disappointed that this isnt a feature. shouldn't be that hard to implement

I also want to dissable click move. Have lost over 10 games because of this click to move.

This is now possible: in your Live Chess settings under "Board" there is "Move Method" - change it from "Drag Pieces" to "Click Squares"

But it still says that you can use both methods in the '?' tool tip. so if you accidentally klick on a square after highlighting a piece it will move.

If that's the case, it sounds like a bug - report it via https://support.chess.com/article/346-contact-us

Losing games frequently because of clicking on the wrong location of my screen, while I always move my pieces with a drag and drop... looking at different posts about this issue, it seems that people are asking for this SUPER SIMPLE fix since 7 years? Why the team of chess.com is not putting priority on this?

But if you pick up the wrong piece in RL, you still have to move it, and if you place it down where it didn't start, you have actually finished a move?

It's clearly not the same thing.

wenjello

sad i just lost 3 games in a row from accidentally misclicking to get rid of a highlight and hanging my queen

bbhands

idk. i had this issue as well. hung so many pieces in my last few games

LuckyOwl456

this can be easily implemented and the lack of it super annoying, just lost two games for this reason.

WarmUpTheBus

Maybe click-to-move is great for some players, but for others it's a nuisance. Just lost a game due to another click-to-move surprise and found this forum. Cheers!
