Can't buy a gift subscription for another member

I'd like to purchase a year Platinum membership for my brother (who's currently on the Gold membership), but whenever I try I get the following error message:

  • This member can't receive gifts at the moment.

I sent a couple requests to support last week, asking for help, but haven't received a response.

Has anyone else seen this problem, and know of a workaround/solution?

You might want to ask another question: Can you upgrade a subscription before it has expired?

There isn't any setting that I know of that can result in such a message, so I can't really help you in any way other than that.

If the membership your brother has was purchased through one of the app stores, I don't believe gifting is allowed. I believe it's a limitation of the way those work.

 

I don't have an option to gift you a membership, so I'm pretty sure you purchased through the app store.

Support may have a way to do it, and they will likely get back to you this coming week.  They have a backlog of tickets and continuing high ticket loads.

Interesting. I didn't think I purchased my most recent renewal via the app store, but I actually don't remember now. Rats.

Thanks to both of you for the helpful information! I'll wait a little more patiently for support, to see if they have any additional suggestions.
