Chess.com Changed my Username w/o Telling Me (Trolling?)

Sort:
Anti-Communication

The title does not say it all. I randomly got a 60 minute suspension from live chess the other day in the middle of a game. I was not given a reason other than the general pop up banner message saying I violated guidelines. This is obviously not a big deal, but I've never gotten anything like this since creating my account in 2015, so I messaged support respectfully asking what's the problem. Instead of getting back to me, they changed my username from 'Anti-Communist' to 'Anti-Communication' without saying a peep. And you apparently can't send consecutive messages on their support page without your first message being answered. So I'm shut out. Get the joke? Not to come to a premature verdict, but this indeed seems like a practical joke by an admin as opposed to assistance. I'm of course happy to correct anything I've been doing wrong if that's the case, but please understand my issue here. Any suggestions or comments would be fantastic. Particularly what's the best way to contact Chess.com w/o their contact page (which again isn't working for me as the admin that saw it chose not to answer)?

Not to make accusations, but this seems almost like a practical joke my an admin a opposed to assistance. I found my new username my looking up a recent forum thread I made. If I hadn't posted anything in the forums, I'm not sure how easy it would be to find my username, and as a diamond member, how I would be able to cancel my payments. In addition to all this, I can't send a message to support on the same support page, because you can't send consecutive messages without a response. I'm of course happy to correct anything I've been doing wrong if that's the case, but please understand my concern, again, as a paying member. Any suggestions or comments would be fantastic. Thanks.

I can't speak to your specific case, but the site has some general guidelines on acceptable usernames and apparently someone on staff decided that was inappropriate. Usually members are messaged about needing a change and given time to choose their own.

That said, even had you not know the name, you can always log in with your email address instead of a username.

Thanks for your answer. You are right about the email address (I edited that out). However, I looked up the guidelines, and political names are not mentioned, but they reserve the right to deem certain usernames offensive. Nonetheless, "Anti-Communication" seems like trolling, especially w/o a response and that I appear to be effectively disabled from contacting support.

If there are any moderators who can help me with this enigma, that would be awesome.

If you do not like your name, I believe that you can still change it https://support.chess.com/article/493-how-can-i-change-my-username. As for the political name, it is clearly mentioned in the community policy that discussion about politics is not allowed.

Yes I finally found out how to send an email and asked. Also, if they consider this "discussion", then fine. But they changed it to the previous username for me years ago.

You can message support. It is my preferred method of contacting them (email, I mean). From my experiences they’re usually pretty nice.

Ive done it three times. Once to ask for a username change, once to inquire about an automute, and a third one that I can’t really disclose because my correspondent asked so nicely not to blabber about it.

Messages take a few days to respond, business days anyway. So send the emails during a Monday, not a Saturday. After around two days they usually get to you.
