Chess.com Voice Commentary Chrome extension doesn't work?

I have been trying to get the Chess.com Voice Commentary Chrome extension to work for the last 2 days and feel like I have tried everything, changing the piece notation from figurine to text, closing chrome and opening again, reinstalling the extension and nothing seems to work. When I open the "Inspect Popup" view for the extension I see many errors including a "net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED" and "[WDS] Disconnected!", I have attached a screenshot of the errors. Is there a fix anybody is aware of for this?

It's very possible that that hasn't been updated recently. The site code changes all the time so something could have changed.

You might open a ticket with support and see if they can ask the extension creator.

Sorry I dont follow?? What's the difference? I just play on chess.com on pc .

/online is the newer interface and it's very possible the extension doesn't work on that.

There is only voice moves when playing a real person. No sound when you play against the computer... is that correct? Thx 

The extension only work in live as far as I'm aware, so it won't work in Play > Computer.

it shows the speaker when a move is made but i dont hear anything just the normal move sound

The extension works only for chess.com/live (not for analysis or vs computer) and you have to set the Piece Notation to Text for it to work.

Can somebody please check if it announces the moves now? It used to work for me some time ago, and I have set the piece notation to text. I tried everything I could think of, reinstalling chrome, tried on other computers, networks, nothing. It does not announce one single move, nada. Already a few days back, I tried, and it did not work on spot checks.

I believe it only works in Play > Live Chess and not the newer interface.

What used to work for checking if the voice extension momentarily works (for it works on and off) is to click Today and open a game played under "Playing Now". When the moves are announced, there is a chance moves are announced when playing with the DGT board.

Now, this reproducibly does not work on different computers. I tried around randomly and found when I click Today / Playing Now / Select a running game. There are no moves announced. When I click afterwards in addition Play / Live Chess, the same game is displayed in the same interface (as I can see), and moves are announced.

This repeats. When I open the next game under Today / Playing Now, no moves are announced. After clicking Play / Live Chess, moves are announced.

This wasn't the case, so something has changed, and besides, this makes no sense.

Also, when I connect the DGT board, which is one main use case for the voice extension, moves are only randomly picked up.

Sorry for the bad feedback, but I am frustrated with this feature. I have already invested several times several hours, and the next time I want to use it again it does not work, maybe now for a new reason. I have the impression you throw unfinished software at the user, and the user has to finish it by testing it.

Also, so far, many problems have been reported for the voice extension. At some times, it did not work, a perfect reproducible repeating problem, as now, and there was not one official statement what caused this.

Or is it that chess.com does not feel responsible for the extension? Then please at least say so. Then this component is not supported. For on the support page for the extension on the web-store there is also no explanation for what is going on.

There are two Live interfaces. The extension was made to work on https://www.chess.com/live

It probably won't work on https://www.chess.com/play/online which is the newer interface.

I have solved this problem now, which bothers the users for nearly a year.

When one starts a game with Play / + New Game / Play, one gets to the new interface. The new interface neither supports the voice extension nor the DGT board.

When one starts a game with Play / Live Chess / Play one gets to the old interface. The old interface both supports the voice extension and the DGT board.

So if one wants to play with the DGT board or use the voice extension, one must start a game with Play / Live Chess / Play.

The situation complicating this is the unclarity of this being intentional or non-intentional that the new interface is not supporting these features. The voice commentary definitely worked for some time on the new interface, and the new interface also recognizes the DGT board, but move detection is absolutely unreliable.

For the above reason, users report different experience using the voice extension and the DGT board for nearly a year. The users using the new interface report that it does not work. The users using the old interface report that it works. Not knowing that there is an old and new user interface, the users like me report unreliable behaviour. A mystery solved.
