Chess.com Wrongfully Charged my account

I was just charged $119.99 for the diamond membership when all I signed up for was a 7 day free trial. And just to clarify the signing up for the free trial and charge to my account happened on the same day. I have already filed for a refund, but I need this process to be faster. This is really disappointing to see and I don't know how such a mistake can even be made.

The trial is a subscription offer and must be cancelled before the trial ends or it will automatically charge.

Since you have already requested a refund, staff will reply. It can take a couple of days for that and 3-5 days for the refund to credit to the payment method.

The trial just started today, but for some reason I was charged immediately. Thank you though.

Not acceptable in any way. How about I charge chess.com 2 mil and refund it a couple days later? Bugs at this point is not acceptable.

My guess is that the trial isn't valid. Aren't trials for new players? That would make sense why he was charged instantly.

Bugs occasionally happen. It was reported to staff as well and is being looked into.

Trials are not just for new players. If someone has never taken a trial, they can do it at any time and trials can be come available again later as well, even if a previous one was taken.

Trials are not just for new players. If someone has never taken a trial, they can do it at any time and trials can be come available again later as well, even if a previous one was taken.

Looked into? Wow, I know that chess.com never had good devs but this is really... I am also a dev. Bugs can occasionally happen at other parts of the software but not here. Devs and QA team should do a change asap. THIS can be avoided easily, there is no excuse for that.

There are multiple parts that can introduce issues and a change can unexpectedly cause unintentional problems. There are three different ways to get a memberships (web and two apps). On the apps there are multiple active versions that are supported and a change by the underlying app store could cause issues. It's also possible an older app incorrectly listed a trial as available when it wasn't.

So yes, it's being looked into to determine what may have caused the issue.

A blanket statement that it should never happen isn't even remotely true; companies larger than Chess com, with bigger development teams and more resources overall have had and do have payments related bugs.

The issue will be identified and fixed.

I took diamond membership trial, and today I say that my money got deducted from my account on the same day (when my trial got started) and it is showing that the next billing date is in 2025😭

Yes I had and I canceled it before time and they disabled my previous account for fair play policy and I am still not sure bout regaining that account.
