chess games auto-aborting after 60 seconds during initial moves

Hello there,

I'd like to understand how the auto-abort function works within chess.com online games.

I've only played two games so far, once with a friend without an account and therefore a guest and the other with a free account like me.

We're both very new to this so please excuse my ignorance or naivety but it's weird that when the game begins we only each seem to have about 1 minute to make our first move before the game will auto-abort unless we make a move within that timeframe.

Bearing in mind our account types and few numbers hitherto played, is the above expected behaviour or a bug with chess.com. We're each using a browser not the app.

Thanks, Martin. Am I right in thinking that no matter what either player does, there will be a first move timer?

It seems as though the timer only disappears after 5 moves have been played (3 by one player), is that normal? The post referenced doesn't provide that information
