Chess.com on iPad problems

Playing chess on iPad is the next best thing to playing on a live board. However I get disconnected so frequently that many a times I lose due to lost time and forgetting the overall game plan due to disconnections.

I used to still play on the iPad but recently I got a shocker when Chess.com felt that I was not playing fairly when I am getting booted out by chess.com website.

Is it difficult for the software to understand that here I am trying to login desperately to finish a game rather than abandoning a game.

Is there any recommendantions to ensure stable wifi connectivity for the iPad.

Are you playing on the Chess.com app for iPad or through Safari?

anthonyjoschess

I am playing through the app.

Amelia

Will you make sure you have the most up-to-date version of the app and it probably wouldn't hurt to uninstall and then re-install completely.

Just to ensure that, I reformatted the whole iPad and only had chess.com app installed. Still faced the same problems.

I have the same issues. I get disconnected a lot on my iPad. Since the latest upgrade, it now goes "loading" and locks up entirely, I have to power down the iPad to fix. Surely other people are having the same problem.

Make sure you are running the most up-to-date version of the app and iOS that your iPad will support. Unfortunately Chess.com doesn't support playing through the browser (Safari) on iPads and iPhones.

I experienced the strangest thing today in a 15+5 game. The opponent did not move and his Time went down by the second, then every couple of minutes his time would jump back up to 14 minutes and my time would be shortened with the same amount of time. I could not make a move because my opponent was due. My opponent was chatting that he was waiting for my move... Then I lost on time. I suppose that my opponent did move, but the move was never effected by my ipad app, so that I could never play.... I have been having more of these glitches recently and received a warning for fair play. It is the app that is failing not me. Something to do with ios7?

AHoogendam- Can you please let me know what version of the app you're currently using? Also what type of connection you're using?

dear jac1yn, thank you for replying so soon. I am using v2.11.8 through a wifi connection. I must say that the glitch happens when using the ipad in another room than my router. This also causes the app to reconnect once in a while with live server on chess.com. Other apps however do not reconnect and my ipad does not indicate that my connection with router is lost. Distance is 6-8 meters and I am sitting below an open window....

I got the same issue several times, now I have to give up playing on ipad which I bought mainly to ply chess :-(

I also experienced many disconnection. I think the problem is related to the connection and live update of the app.

Strange enough I have no issue with the iphone version !

Why is that bugging with the ipad version ?

Please fix this...

Sorry you're having issues on the iPad! Are you still having problems with the app after the latest update?

I have the same problem. Great connection and stability when I am playing on my computer, but the iPad is a different story. I am disconnected multiple times in a single game. I am disconnected even though I can still browse with safari when I launch the web browser during one of my many disconnects, so its not that the iPad has lost its WiFi connection. I always make sure I have the latest updated app. I wish the stability of the iPad app could be improved. I always have my iPad with me, not so my laptop.

These are old posts but have this same problem on an ipad pro software version 14.1 in Nov 2020. Have to refresh the screen multiple times to set up a game. Often resigns from or aborts  games because of a connection problem. I am often resigned from games I never made a move in. Doesn’t matter which browser I use the problem is the same. Screen often freezes and then when I reopen on a new page it shows a game I played months ago. Too many problems to list.
