What???? Erik had already answered this post. Its your fault for choosing the United Kingdom as your country and not England.

Thanks Louis, but I see you come form Argentina - (a lovely country I was in Buenos Aries a few months ago)- so you may not quite understand the situation. You say it is my fault. O.K. Chess is a logical game - lets try to be logical - when I signed on I chose as my place to live the United Kingdom- and so was given the flag most people call the Union Jack. That flag covers England Scotland N.Ireland and Wales. It was not logical to look for flag of England- because you can't have two flags! So it as 'my fault'may be that I didn't look, but who would have believed two flags were available. When I found other people playing under the flags of Wales and Scotland - I wanted to play under the flag of England- and that was what my post was all about. I have sinced found the flag of England does exist, I have changed over and am very glad about it thank you. But logically - what should have be on offer was the flag of the United Kingdom- or the flags of its component countries , not both, but thank you for being polite!

You can also "wear" the Gibraltar flag, being Gibraltar not a country...
Another example of "two flags" can be found in Spain: you can play with the spanish flag (the whole country), the galician one (if you're from Galicia, an spanish autonomous region) or the catalonian one (if you're from Catalonia, another spanish autonomous region). But you can't play with the flag of Madrid, for example, if you're from capital's region...

You can and do have two flags. It's really that simple. All the component countries (including the little ones you're forgetting) have their own flags, and have the flag of the union.
Yes I see now - if you look at the top of this post you can see my flag of St George, so I am happy. My 'complaint' is lessened, but I think there is still a case to answer, as Stingray points out there are also flags for Galicia and Catalonia as well the national Spanish Flag and this may the case with regions of other countries. When you first sign on not knowing that flags of the small compantant 'regions' exist- you are likley to opt for the bigger unit eg Spain or United Kingdom. I think a line of explanation that there may be two flags available to you would be helpful but I agree totally with Stingray - Madrid is a region of Spain just like Catalonia - and I logically all the flags of Regions should be available OR just the one overall flag - not both!
We may not always like it- but flying the right flag is very important to most people.

I consider myself both British and Scottish but choose to have the St Andrews Cross or Scottish Saltire as my flag.......However, in the words of John Lennon "Imagine theres no countries"...............a better world it would be
uummm I put my head on the chopping block to disagree with the great John Lennon- but there is no reason why people should not be proud of where they come from. You are obviously proud to be a Scot, and how can your flag, a symbol that represents a saint be problem? As always it is people who are the problem! I am not in favour of flags being used to whip up race hatred- I am in favour of be proud of where you come from. What is the first thing a winning olympic athlete does - wrap him or herself up in the flag, and why not?
Buenotic. I don't make the rules I just challange them - obviously they need sorting out. You want to play under New York's flag, but you live in Guyana, ummm. There was a politician in the UK who said that immigrants could not be said to have become part of our culture until they supported our national teams and not those of the country they came from. He was talking @!XYxz% of course!
Hi Chess.com
I am so focussed on chess that it was only today whilst waiting for a move that I noticed something seriously wrong with with my country of origin flag. You show the Union Flag which is the flag of the United Kingdom. I live in England which is one of three major countries that make up the U.K. - the other two being Scotland and Wales - I note members from these countries do not play under the United Kingdom flag, they play under the flag of their own country. I would like to play under the colours of my country, England please. Our flag is that of St George, a red cross and white background. This is not a wind up or a tonque in cheek jest - I am very serious. Either Scotland and Wales fly the UK flag or all three countries must have the right to fly their own flags. If this message is added to a general forum and not read by the people that can do something about it, perhaps other members could help me finding a way to comunicate with those whose responsibiltiy it is to listen and act. Many thanks,
Chancydog.
