so  am playing and close to winning and my computer disconnects .  Then when it reconnects I have lost the game. It only happens with chess. Using chrome. So whats the trick?

Computer 'disconnections' happen to me, daily. 'Fwiw'.. I live in an 'apt.' bldg. ..Plus, I have 'Wi-fi.' - Ps. Oh yeah.. The 'rent' here, is 'Too Damn High'!

Ever noticed that:

1. Disconnects only happen when you lose.

2. No one ever wins because of a disconnect.

3. The person that lost always has a strong signal.

4. Its always a case of some sort of cheating.

The posts you will never see:

1. I won due to bad connection.

2. My internet isnt the greatest but i still play and accept the wins, and losses as they come.

3. My opponent won because of a better internet connection.

4. My opponent won fair and square.

True story: In a 3/2 game that I played against Computer1-EASY, the computer (not my computer) disconnected for over a minute, and then reconnected.

I've also seen a threado n the forums a while ago, where someone posted a screenshot showing that they had won a game against one of the computers (I think it was 2-MEDIUM) after the computer disconnected. They received the standard Fair Play message: "Computer2-MEDIUM may have violated our Fair Play Policy. ..."

Edit: I just did a quick search, and I found two such threads:

It's something wrong with your internet connection or your network (Modem, router, etc...)

I don't believe there is a way to force your opponent to lose his internet connection or your connection to the chess dot com server.

I have a strong internet connection where I live and I never have disconnects. It's running at 50mbps and im running my computer directly into the modem. No router.

Yes, I myself have won more than lost due to disconnection. The most annoying thing is how sometimes it spoils an interesting game, but such is life.

Well I notice it occurs when I am ahead/winning or about to win. I am waiting for my opponent's move, but then it Disconnects for about 1-2 min, and I can't log back on to a new page. But then the original page returns and I have lost the game. It sucks. I don't fully understand it.

"1. Use a trustworthy browser: Chrome or Firefox - not Internet Explorer"

How is Internet Explorer not a "trustworthy browser"?

So basically if I have any program running in the background, Chess.com could just dissconnect. That's really odd, I don't seem to have this problem with any other program. Even if I am doing a Full Scan which I do DAILY, I have only noted some slowing down of other programs-not disconnects.

VintagePawn

Basically, any client-side process can potentially cause issues with other processes on your system. There is a possibility that some AV software can cause issues, especially ones that hook into the browser.

VintagePawn

Live chess is essentially a real-time process. Anything that causes a temporary disconnect, dropped packets, packet corruption that requires resends, etc, might cause connection issues with the Live server process.

CrecyWar

This only happens with Chess.com. I don't have dissconnect problems with any other program. I mean, I play other games, even chess on other sites and I have never had a disconnect.

VintagePawn

All I can give are suggestions. There also could be connection issues between your ISP and the Chess.com servers that can have an impact.

You might also try v3 if you are already not using that interface since it is the only code receiving updates and should be more stable.

I may have solved my dissconnect problem...not 100% sure, but played 3 games in a row and no dissconnects. I called my internet provider and they advised me to "change the channel to either 1, 6 or 11 ". Anyway I tried all three channels and still had dissconnects on thse 3 chices. Ugh! So I noted I got a "shock wave crash" alert and looked it up. According to a fellow on youtube he thinks its because there are two programs and they clash. There is a Chrome and a Windows program and recommended disarming the Chrome program first. So far that seems to work. We'll see.Tongue Out

CrecyWar

OMG...still had a few "Shock Wave crashes " and "non-responsive " browser crashes " while playing chess, so I bought a 1 yr contract with " The Geek Squad " $199. The agent remotely worked on my computer about 2-3 hours also doing a "tune-up". So I hope it's fixed. Geez just to play chess.

""" Remote Session Recap from your Agent

We updated your wireless drivers. I installed uBlock Origin in Google Chrome to block all advertisements; you played your Chess game without the browser freezing up/becoming unresponsive. I removed various traces of malware/infections and adware related infections from your PC. I ensured that your web browsers were free of malicious extensions and plugins. I removed non-essential programs and/or programs commonly referred to as PUP/PUA objects, that lead to adware infections. A full PC Tune Up was performed. I removed temp files from PC; large amounts of temp files on a PC can lead to slower performance and limited storage space. I optimized startup items on your PC to improve speed. I ensured that all applicable 3rd party plugins, such as Flash, Reader, and Java were up to date. It is important to keep these items up to date as they are commonly exploited by viruses. Windows was updated and optimized. ""

I should point out that other companies will charge you a similar amount for doing more, less or exactly the same. No disrespect to Geek Squad intended.

However, an alternative is educating yourself. If you do not have the time, inclination nor interest to do so, you better have the money.

You can do all of what was performed on your computer and pay yourself $199 each year.

Be careful out there - It's a planet.

Well when I was working(Doctor over 30 years) we just learned how to use them, not fix them. Also I had a friend who would fix my computers/home net work for me. I have learned some, but I don't keep up with IT. Kind busy with my research I am doing on a FBI case. You are from the UK...check out my novel..."Living in the Time of Wolves ".

Happens too much against those 'numbered accounts' .  I had a match right now.  Balanced, when I got a slight edge, close to the end of the game...bum. My connection magically dropped.... what a coincidence, eh ?
