Can't access my emails from the chess.com home page, when I try I get sent to a support page about POP settings. Anyone else having this problem or know what to do ?

musicalhair

yes, this is not working for me eithe the old web based way or when I set up an email client program to access the email.

He STAFF, this actually matters to people who use the service and who pay you money for this.  I use this chess dot com email and if I can't get to it then this messes with my ability to do things in the real world and I have to create work-arounds.

Fix it, or if you're going to end it then phase it out.  Abruptly pulling the plug on it will cause harm to the people who use it.

Same issues as stated above here.     I use the chess.com email for all my gaming.

Has anyone put in a support ticket?

Pan_Malina

I have notified chess.com via the support contact, awaiting reply.

Can't acces my email. And I'm expecting a message from c.c tech support. Been this way for about 3 days. Help! I've notified c.c support 3 times so far. Even included another email addy and... well... nuttin'.

On saturday I got this reply from Chess.com Support (but it is of course not satisfactory!):

Thanks for writing in and reporting that! I’m really sorry you’re having issues with your email. Our team is currently looking into the issue, as you’re not the only one having troubles.

As soon as I get more information I will absolutely let you know. My apologies for the inconvenience!

wormrose

May I ask; How did they contact you? I wonder why they haven't contacted me since I have reported it three times. Hope they're not trying to send me an email. Laughing

XavierPadilla

They wrote to my Hotmail address. I got this message today:

Thanks for your patience. I have received more information on the issue. Unfortunately we have actually removed the web login entirely, as part of our process to phase out the Chess.com emails. As a premium member you should be able to access the POP3 account settings and access your email that way...

Pan_Malina

That's something at least, I have sent 2 messages and had no reply whatsoever. When did they decide to phase out chess.com email and why didn't they inform anyone ?????  I am on Gmail but until now have never really used it, can't work out how to use POP3 settings to get my chess.com emails, do any of you guys know how it works ?

musicalhair

well I tried to do what this page says but it don't work for me:

How do I get my POP mail settings and setup my account?

As a Premium Chess.com Member you can access your @chess.com email from any POP program including Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Gmail, Blackberry, etc. To setup your program to work with your @chess.com email address use the settings below.

>> Your POP username is your Chess.com email address (example: MYNAME@chess.com).

>> Your password is your Chess.com password.

>> The POP3 server setting is: mail.chess.com

>> The SMTP server setting is: mail.chess.com

>> Outbound SMTP authentication is required, and uses the same settings as your incoming mail settings.

keywords: email, POP, mail, gmail, outlook, blackberry

POP mail is only available for Premium Members.

Holy shit, I get important stuff in this email... why wasn't I told chess.com?

I can't get the pop thing to work either.

wormrose

Why didn't they just tell everyone they are phasing out email. Why not just tell the truth. It's a wonderful thing - the truth.

XavierPadilla

I recieved some more instructions to set the POP thing, but still I could not make it work:

So basically, POP3 mail clients are a way of retrieving your email without having to log into a webpage. If you have a mobile device such as an Android or iPhone, both of those mail programs are similar to a POP3 mail client. In this case, I see that you’re using Windows 7. I’d suggest trying Mozilla Thunderbird, which is a free mail client from the same people who make Firefox.

Here is a link to their page: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/

Once you install and start the program, it will ask for your name, email, and password. Please fill those three forms out for your Chess.com account. That should be sufficient to set up the mailbox...

Pan_Malina

Have finally managed to get my mail via gmail using the POP3 settings. It wasn't easy for someone who has no idea what POP3 is and took a while to get it right. I agree Wormrose, a bit of notice would have been nice, plus I've still had absolutely no contact from chess.com, very poor !

qixel

I'm not a premium member, so I guess I have no rights, but yes, at least tell us that email is going away so we can take steps to redirect our mail.  Grrrrr.

wormrose

downloaded thunderbird but have not been able to connect with any of my email accounts. Must be doing something wrong. Nothing worse than technoogy that doesn't work.

qixel

I know that chess.com is moving to desk.com for its customer service software.  (Kohai mentioned this somewhere.)  I don't know if this is part of the problem or not.

I'm in the process of redirecting a bunch of people/sites to other emails.

musicalhair

I'm trying to get my phone to connect to it, following the instructions they provide but it ain't working either.

qixel

@musicalhair et al

This especially sucks for premium members cuz you guys pay for this stuff.

TheGrobe

Noticed it yestereday, assumed that the intent was to no longer support a web-mail interface and force everyone to use an e-mail client. Definitely a reduction in the service level if this is the case, I don't intend to use a client to access my chess.com e-mail, I'll simply not be using it if this is the case.
