No - that sounds like you've got some sort of security software that evaluates the links on a web page and marks the ones it thinks are unverified.
exclamation mark in red circle

Yep, if you click on it, it should suggest more modern browsers. (NB. if you're on a Mac, we recommend you update to Safari 10 if you're still on Safari 9.)

Chrka, I'm updated as as high as I can go with Safari, 9.1.3. Does that mean I'm stuck with that annoying red circle?

@Bri21 At least for now — there are a couple of bugs in Safari 9 that makes us recommend upgrading. I take it you're on Mavericks then? Have you checked if your computer supports Yosemite (which should allow you to upgrade to Safari 10.)
Another option might be to switch to Chrome, for example. (But I prefer Safari myself )

Chrka, thanks for answering my question. Yes, I'm on Mavericks. The Mac store says I can "upgrade" to Sierra for free but I just hate the way the dock and icons look vs Mavericks, looks like a downgrade to me. I'm totally satisfied with Mavericks, however, If there some bugs or security risks I guess I'll have make the change. Thanks again.
is there meant to me an exclamation mark in a red circle by side of the chess.com heading above the play icon.
