game abandoned

On 10th May 2011 at about 0335 hrs (am, Singapore time), I was having game (127683706) with bleckmacigno when there was a disconnection after I had made my move. When connection resumed, my time was reduced. I was surprised as I saw my opponent's time reduced during the disconnection. We continued playing. After awhile there was a second disconnection. This happened after I had already made my move. When resumed connection, there was a new game laid out on the screen. But our conversation was still worded on the right side of the screen. I then checked with "live chess' and was shocked that it registered that I had lost the game because I had abandoned the game.

This is ridiculous. Could the staff of chess.com., help by scrutinising game (127683706).

If a game is abandoned it means during the disconnection you didn't make it back to the game within 2 minutes, or the time remaining on the clock.

You said you disconnected on his move, if he moves while you're reconnecting, then yes his time would have gone down and your clock would have started ticking down.

The game chat will remain on your screen even if you started a new game with the same person or with someone else.

to:- Ms. Kohai,

Both times after I had made my move, the system disconnected. It was my opponent's turn to move.  I could see his clock winding down. When connection was resumed, my time was reduced instead of my opponent's . I did not disconnect with the system.

hi... in todays game which i lost.... oppnents time would reduced and suddenly increased by say 5-6 secs but mine was normal....is this some trick or system fault  ???

I was playing an opponent and I was leading by two points early. I was about to make my eighth move when suddenly he abandoned the game. I assumed I was going to get rating points because he abandoned the game, however, their was no knowledge of the game according to the website and I did not recieve my points. How best can we fix this.

I had same problem as YitzyHershkowitz,

chess.com should do something about that, because that is very unfair

Would you please impose a
Penalty of negative scores to those players who auto-resign, and perhaps bonus points for those of us who wait it out while they auto resign? So annoying!

Once in a while, chess.com claims I abandoned a game I didn't even play. Happened maybe 15-20 times. Not sure why. I never moved or started the game. I do a search for a game. And then it finds an opponent. Usually if you don't start the game on time it just aborts. But once in a while it claims abandoned. I can understand maybe if you aborted 3-5 games in a row; that could be used as a punishment to discourage not moving or playing. But it's random. Like I just played 3 games and took a few seconds to get back to the board and it said I lost instead of abort. A bug?

Could it have disconnected while I was waiting or away? But thats only a few seconds and connection looks fine actually...

My opponent was down two pieces and suddenly the game froze. When it came back on my piece could not be moved. A minute later ( I still had 5 minutes left in the blitz game ) it said my opponent won by resignation! Definitely a bug. It's frustrating.

it happens to me all the time, but i never win any points for that... i think is a kind of HACK!

This guy ...did it to me today. I was about to win and then the game was broke off, but I didn't get points. Then I looked in the list of the games I've played and it wasn't there. Please block him!!!

Your opponent can't impact your connection. That game was aborted due to a Live server restart.
