Hide online status? How?

Is there a way to hide my online status (the blinking sound waves)? I'm sure there is a way because I noticed some players our on line but have no blinking icon? I've tried search boxes but I haven't found anything yet.

I'm afraid not, at least not to my knowledge.  There should be though.

The players you've noticed online (presumably because they're making moves?) may have been using the mobile app, which does not cause the online indicator to come on.

Especially the stance where some members believed they had a right to see other people's online status.

'No names, no pack-drill.'

Skype's approach (letting you adjust the status manually)

probably requires too much effort to be usable.

thanks for the links 'artfizz', very interesting reading. looking at the dates of the threads though, it seems obvious that the option is never going to be available on this site, which is a shame but nothing can be done about it.

Thank you to all of you who took the time to answer my question. I think management should consider this option. Other players will just have to understand that just because someone is on line, it doesn't necessarily mean they are available to play chess.
