The players you've noticed online (presumably because they're making moves?) may have been using the mobile app, which does not cause the online indicator to come on.

Especially the stance where some members believed they had a right to see other people's online status.

Skype's approach (letting you adjust the status manually)
probably requires too much effort to be usable.
Is there a way to hide my online status (the blinking sound waves)? I'm sure there is a way because I noticed some players our on line but have no blinking icon? I've tried search boxes but I haven't found anything yet.
