I know this thread is old, but I thought forum moderators were staff and therefore easily identifiable by the staff logo? If not, I think they should be identifiable with a label (at least here on the forums), like other internet forums do. It might make people think twice about causing trouble if they knew a moderator is watching the thread. The current system seems to be focused on dealing with trouble, rather than preventing it.

There are two types of moderator.
Forum and live chess
Before applying for either, a member must be:
Aged 18 or over,
Been a member of Chess.com atleast 6 months,
Know the site well,
Have only one account,
And be an active member on the site.
If only someone had posted some of the requirements somewhere...
