I have to be away for a long time. How can I cancel my premium membership? I mean I don't want chess.com charge my credit car any more.

Gert-Jan

You better contact the staff directly about this kind of things.

Cancelling membership cancels premium without closing the account.

"Cancel Your Membership (or Auto-renewal)

If you would like to cancel your current membership, click here. You will still be able to keep your membership until the end of your paid period."

I cancel one second after paying so it doesn't keep renewing when I become incapacitated.

From your own homepage, use the right side menu options panel. Click where it says "Account".  At the top of that page it gives you the option to cancel your premium membership.

Did you cancel the auto renewal yourself or ask one of the support team/billing team to do this for you?

kohai, can you help me cancel my premium membership?

FranciscoCorralesM

I want to cancel my Premium membeship !, before the month ends !, as you said, I can have a free trial !, but I can't find anywhere how to cancel it !.This is pretty annoing and seems you are trying to scam us (users). Please put a solid link/option in the Account where I can just click it, and cancel my purchase. !
Thank you.

"put a link in so I can just click it".    It doesn't work that way.

@FranciscoCorralesM

If you go to "Account" in the "Home" section, at the very top is a yellow box that has the link to cancel your membership. Hasn't this been said?

I dont want to spend 100 dollars just on a membership in chess.com, Christamas is coming up!

Why does it say the unsubscribe button you have clicked is invalid?

Why is it such a pain in the ass to remove my membership?

RonaldJosephCote

Your account expires on the 17th. The old, "insufficient funds" usually works.

I tried the free premium membership of ten days that is offered for a new user. However I didn't want to continue to paying for it. For me it is a bit suspicious that I have to google how I do the cancellation. I would appreciate transparency so that I can pick that alternative right where I choose the payment option. I know that the information can be found from the FAQ page too, but it hasn't been available at times during the time I have been in chess.com. Thanks!

Same here. Not just on chess.com but any other site that defaults to auto-renew. It's not so much about becoming incapacitated (though that too), but more that I'm likely to forget about the renewal a year later, especially if I'm not using the site much anymore for whatever reason. In which case letting it auto-renew because I lost track of when I needed to cancel is just throwing away money. Solution: Cancel immediately. Of course, forgetfulness is a big part of what this business model is counting on when they make auto-renew the default (and they often make turning it off a huge pain - xbox live is a prime example of this or at least it was a few years ago when I had an account).

Hi,

My membership got auto renewed today even though I had not opted for it. Can you please cancel my existing plan and refund my money. Thanks
