How do I receive requests to play?

For 2 years now, I have clicked 'Start Game' on the Chess.com app on my iPad, and after a few seconds during which it says 'Searching', it produces an opponent who is well-matched to me in rating. Lately, the search has failed several times to produce an opponent, although I keep trying at intervals.
This is frustrating. There must be a pool of people who are receiving requests to play from those who, like me, just press 'Start Game' and wait. How do I become one of these people myself? It's not clear.

It looks like you play 30 0 games. 30 0 is not one of the more popular time controls.

I think that you could try one of the more popular time controls. 10 0, 5 0, 3 0 or 1 0

Or if you need a slower time control, continuing to press start and waiting a few minutes for a game is your best bet.

Thanks for your reply. But suppose I wanted to receive requests to play for any duration, how would I set this up?

There is a setting for allowing others to challenge you. I think that you can allow anyone or just your friends to challenge you. You can also keep people from challenging you.

You can also go into setting up a custom challenge where you set the parameters for the ratings of players you are willing to play.

However, unless you have a large network of friends or are a titled player, you probably won't receive a lot of good challenges.

Interesting that you are having the same issue I just recently started to deal with. I played two years using one hour time controls and always got a game in seconds. Then suddenly over the past three weeks I’ve had several occasions not getting a match and sometimes I waited 15 up to 45 minutes! I know fewer people use 30 minute or one hour controls but both of us had no problem getting matches for two years until recently. This suddenness is what is baffling. Makes me wonder if Chess.com is losing players who prefer longer controls. I’m not going to use short time controls just to get games more easily because I am learning much more by thinking carefully about positions. When I can’t get a game I am playing bots for practice.

JustBeFair: Thanks for the link, I will take a look at this.
WilsonGrail: Interesting you are seeing the same problem as a 30 minute player. As you say, this has happened very suddenly in the past few weeks which makes me wonder if it is a chess.com technical problem...if it were because of players leaving, it would surely be quite gradual. I also use Game Review, and have noticed that recently, it does not always record my percentage score in the list of my played games. Whether these things are connected it's impossible to say, but chess.com is not working as well as it used to for me.

Yes, i have been experiencing other glitches too. Like you, I review all my games, but after doing so, the accuracy percentage does not display on the front page as it should. I have to go back into the game and click the Review button and get into review mode, close that out, and then the rating does display. But it should do so immediately after reviewing. I also am seeing my ELO displaying differently when I try to get a game: it is being given as 8 points lower than my actual rating. Not a huge deal, but yet another glitch that wasn't happening until recently. I did get someone at Chess.com (very helpful) to address the matching issue, and after looking into it, their techs say it is simply that no one is available. But I still have no clue why this is SUDDENLY an issue. They did make a helpful change as a result: they now have a time out message after five minutes if you don't get a match. So at least you get some response from the system and are not left to wonder if the app is hung up. I have had one other glitchy issue now for the past six months regarding the sounds made during a game when a move is made etc. Within the same game, sometimes I hear the sounds properly and sometimes they are faint (echoey) and delayed. I just think there are many glitches in the Chess.com app for iPads. It's too bad.
